Isipathana and Meddebadda MV clinch handball titles

Isipathana College, Colombo and Meddebadda Maha Vidyalaya, Wasalakott­e won the boys and girls championsh­ips respective­ly at the inaugural Sri Lankasport­s.com Under-15 Schools Handball Challenge 2012 worked off at the DS Senanayake College Indoor Stadium last weekend. In the Cup championsh­ip final Isipathana beat Prince of Wales’ College Moratuwa by nine goals to four; as they went on to clinch their inaugural handball title. In the girls’ final Meddebadda Wasalakott­e trounced Buddhists Ladies College Colombo by seven goals to nothing as they impressed with notable performanc­es.

The Plate championsh­ip of the boys’ catego- ry was claimed by St. Anthony’s College Wasalakott­e who had to battle it out against Homagama Central College before finishing off by a narrow four goals to three. The Plate championsh­ip in the girls’ segment went to Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda who thrashed Homagama Central College by six goals to one. Isipathana claimed a double when their ‘B’ side edged Royal College Panadura by four goals to three to clinch the Bowl championsh­ip in the boy’s segment. The Bowl championsh­ip in the girls’ segment was won by Devi Balika ‘B’ who went on to lash Sunethrade­vi Girls’ School Pepiliyana by eight goals to one in the final.

A total of 16 boys’ and 12 girls’ schools teams took part in the inaugural Under-15 handball tourney which was played indoors. The tournament was organized by www.srilankasp­orts.com and Sri Lanka Schools’ Handball Associatio­n (SLSHA).
