Isipathana and Meddebadda MV clinch handball titles
Isipathana College, Colombo and Meddebadda Maha Vidyalaya, Wasalakotte won the boys and girls championships respectively at the inaugural Sri Lankasports.com Under-15 Schools Handball Challenge 2012 worked off at the DS Senanayake College Indoor Stadium last weekend. In the Cup championship final Isipathana beat Prince of Wales’ College Moratuwa by nine goals to four; as they went on to clinch their inaugural handball title. In the girls’ final Meddebadda Wasalakotte trounced Buddhists Ladies College Colombo by seven goals to nothing as they impressed with notable performances.
The Plate championship of the boys’ catego- ry was claimed by St. Anthony’s College Wasalakotte who had to battle it out against Homagama Central College before finishing off by a narrow four goals to three. The Plate championship in the girls’ segment went to Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda who thrashed Homagama Central College by six goals to one. Isipathana claimed a double when their ‘B’ side edged Royal College Panadura by four goals to three to clinch the Bowl championship in the boy’s segment. The Bowl championship in the girls’ segment was won by Devi Balika ‘B’ who went on to lash Sunethradevi Girls’ School Pepiliyana by eight goals to one in the final.
A total of 16 boys’ and 12 girls’ schools teams took part in the inaugural Under-15 handball tourney which was played indoors. The tournament was organized by www.srilankasports.com and Sri Lanka Schools’ Handball Association (SLSHA).
