Research from the International National Reading Panel

A meta-analysis of the research on phonemic awareness training showed quite clearly the benefits of this technique, as a component of a successful reading programme. Similarly, the detailed analysis of many studies involving phonics instruction revealed that systematic phonics instruction produces significant benefits for students in kindergarten through 6th grade and for children having difficulty learning to read.

“Phonics instruction teaches children the relationships between the letters (graphemes) of written language and the individual sounds (phonemes) of spoken language.” These relationships are referred to using a variety of labels: graphophonemic relationships, letter- sound associations, letter- sound correspondences, sound- symbol correspondences, and sound spellings.

All the children will be qualified for Local and London Exams.
