A unique top-up programme from the University of Bolton
The University of Bolton (UOB) recently launched it’s BA (Hons) Business Management (Top-up) at its WCMT Campus here in Sri Lanka. Geared for those who have completed a HND in business management, Management Level of CIMA, ABE – Advanced Diploma, IBSL - Diploma in Banking and Finance or any equivalent qualification, this unique top-up degree is said to further develop key skills including time management, communications and IT.
Developed in collaboration with industry and employers, the course provides students a unique opportunity to raise their qualification from either HND or equivalent status to a full undergraduate degree in a very short time.
The 12-month course, designed with those in full-time employed in mind, consists of four modules covering Marketing Management, Contemporary Management Issues, International Human Resource Management, and Strategic Management leading to the final dissertation. Assessment is through essays, case studies, reports and presentations.
“The course will also provide opportunities to continue to develop important and transferable skills, which are in great demand by graduate employers and include group working and presentation skills. The programme includes lectures, seminars, group discussions and case studies, and is designed to help give you the edge in a competitive and fast-moving sector,” Chinthaka Wijayaratne, CEO of WCMT Campus revealed.
Unlike many institutions that offer foreign degree programmes, UOB offers a unique ‘flying faculty’ with face-to-face lectures for all or part of each module. Local support staff is also on hand to provide assistance with study guides and assignments. All programmes at the WCMT Campus are also strongly supported by a virtual learning environment and a library with one of the largest collections of ebooks and ejournals within the UK.
In terms of investment, the course offers significant savings as compared to a course of study in the UK amounting to as much as 82 per cent. In addition, the qualification obtained is awarded directly from the University of Bolton.
As part of its commitment to foster practical skills and knowledge, UOB expects all students to attain 10 core employability skills, developed in consultation with employers, to ensure students meet market skill needs.
In terms of eligibility applicants with a merit profile in Level 2 of a relevant HND are eligible to apply. Applicants with suitable qualifications including advanced and professional diplomas may also be eligible for admission.
