Thilanga heads WPCA
Thilanga Sumathipala, Past President of Sri Lanka Cricket and Member of Parliament for Colombo District was elected uncontested as the President of the Western Province Cricket Association at their Annual General Meeting held at the Colombo Cricket Club.the other office bearers that were elected are as follows:
Vice Presidents: Lucian Merinnage, Roshan Abeysinghe, Gihan Weerasinghe; Secretary: Anura Weerasinghe; Assistant Secretary: Godfrey Dab- rera; Treasurer: Aruna De Silva; Assistant Treasurer: Praneeth Peiris; Selection Committee Chairman: A.R.M. Aroos; Tournament Committee Chairman: A.R.M. Aroos; Tournament Committee Chairman: Bandula Dissanayake.
Thilanga Sumathipala is his address stated that one of his priorities would be to develop a future gen- eration of cricketers who would represent the country by providing opportunities to emerging talented young cricketers who would otherwise drift away from cricket after leaving school and decided to initiate an under 21 limited over cricket tournament amongst the Districts under the purview of the Western Province Cricket Association during April.
This tournament will be played with coloured clothing and provide an opportunity to young cricketers giving them exposure in a competitive environment at District level cricket.
The WPCA Executive Committee also decided to invite other Provincial Cricket Associations to participate as invitees in this competition.
