28th March 2012, Colombo: The Hilton Residency Colombo played host to the graduation of the second group of students to complete the Etisalat Diploma in Professional Selling.

The programme designed and conducted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing ( SLIM) focuses on the academic knowledge, and marketing prowess required to be an effective salesperson. The course is made freely available to all members of Etisalat’s sales staff. The second graduating class saw 47 students from Etisalat’s many sales divisions being awarded the diploma.

The concept of the diploma was put forward by Etisalat in an attempt to devise an academic curriculum for the training of staff in professional selling. Etisalat is the official telecommunication partners of SLIM, and looked to the national marketing institution to design this curriculum in line with their academic standards. Since 1970, SLIM has been recognizing and rewarding marketing excellence and elevating the status of the marketing discipline and fraternity in Sri Lanka. They also conduct other educational courses, training the next generation of Sri Lanka’s marketers.

Etisalat’s CEO, Dumindra Ratnayaka, said, “Etisalat is a people oriented company, and we pride ourselves not only on our efforts to bring the best products and services to our customers but also the extent to which we take care of our family. The initiative that members of our team have shown through this academic undertaking is indicative of their drive to better themselves to become excellent sales professionals. We are glad that through the educational expertise of SLIM, we were able to provide this opportunity to the promising salespersons in our organization.”

The graduates of the course become eligible for admission into SLIM’S Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing course, bypassing the certificate level. Top performer Mr. Sangeeth Wikramasinghe was awarded a certificate of merit at the ceremony, and a scholarship to SLIM’S post graduate diploma programme.
