The question of a gate

A leading club recently removed its majestic gate to some work on it. The gate was quite unceremoniously kept aside until the repair work was done. Those who use this gate quite often were shocked to see parts of this majestic gate missing. It looks as if the people who were supposed to look after the gate are aware of what is going on and are turning a blind eye on the whereabouts of this gate. It would have been better to let the gate in its original place. Those who know the scene keeps on saying that Handaya knows a lot about this affair. Handaya of course is the name of a well known children’s film.

Only a matter of an O

With the England cricket team here there are a host of commentators giving their view of the games. One commentator quite well known as ‘Mister Pus’ added another feather to his cap when he referred to the England opener Alastair Cook as Alaistair Cok! What does it matter… only an ‘O’ is missing

Turning up their noses

The athletic scene should be in full swing these days because a major international event is to be held here in May. But officials are turning up their noses because an all important meeting is to be held soon to decide on the office-bearers for the current season. One official was heard to say that the present regime has collected no less than 33 million to the sport and they have no intention of handing over this amount to the new set of officials. What they rightly believe is that they have collected the said amount and they should rightly dispense with it.

Currying favour

A certain top media man may not get an extension as he is supposed to be favouring only one individual. This media man has been seen in association with this particular press guy so many times by other men in the same game. Word has gone out to the Big Man in sports has heard about this and he (the Big Man) has told those who control the sport to cut him off when the time comes and appoint another in his place.

All for nothing

A game that is being played with ball and a net is training hard with an eye of sending a team to the SAF Games to be held early next year. Players are hard at practices as they expect selectors to watch their performances in order to name the team for the event. However hard they train it is of no use. Not one selector even has come to watch them training. The players are now wondering whether it worth their effort to keep training when no selectors come to watch them.

Hora-police to the fore

It was a matter of ‘Hora Police’ when certain officials of the khakied gentry were seen ushering in the white sahibs to see matches without buying tickets of course. The khaki clad lads of course get their return sometimes in British Pounds and when it is converted to local currency it makes a considerable sum. The sun keeps shining on them with the matches that are going on and they hope that more matches of this nature will be held in sunny Lanka so that they too could fill their pockets.
