Smooth sailing for Southern Command

Commodore S.A Weerasingh­e was the runner-up at the open event at the annual Inter-Command Tennis Tournament of the Sri Lanka Navy held in the Naval Dockyard, Trincomale­e.

In the veteran’s event Rear Admiral Lakshman Illangakoo­n won singles and went on to win the doubles partnering Commodore S.A Weerasingh­e. In the Command Championsh­ip the victorious Southern Command Team completed the tournament without dropping a single set beating Western Command in the finals.

In addition to Command Championsh­ip open singles, open doubles, veteran doubles and singles and championsh­ip for novices players were conducted. Southern Command team this year won the overall championsh­ip and all other open events excluding novices championsh­ip.

The Southern Command Team comprised of Rear Admiral Lakshman llangakoon, Commodore S.A Weerasingh­e, Captain A.P.N De Silva and L/PTI A.I.M Mendis. Captain APN De Silva won the open singles and partnered Rear Admiral Lakshman Illangakoo­n to win the open doubles championsh­ip. Results Open singles Champion: Captain.
