Zahira launches swimming pool

The most anticipate­d facet of Zahira College Colombo – the swimming pool complex was ceremonial­ly opened at 4.00pm in Maradana yesterday. Zahira, one of the leading public schools in the island got its long expected dream of a swimming pool after the hard work of its past pupils, officials and benefactor­s.

The swimming pool complex was built at a cost of Rs.98 Million is an ultra modern facility in a three- storey building. The main pool includes eight lanes and measures 25 metres in length and six metres in width. The beginner’s pool is 15 metres long and six metres wide. The centre piece of the ground floor will house the wash rooms, changing rooms and beginner’s changing rooms. The first floor sports the main pool, spectators’ podium, beginner’s pool and stores. The second floor comprises a resplenden­t restaurant, gymnasium and other indoor recreation­al facilities and the pool office. A basketball court and parking space for 24 vehicles is also available within the complex prem- ises.

Three Special Guests – Al Haj Desamanya M.T.A. Furkhan (Chairman of Confifi Group), Al Haj M.H. Omar (Founder of Brandix) and Manilal Fernando (Chairman of Holcim Lanka and Executive Committee Member of FIFA) declare opened the swimming pool Complex. The Swimming Pool Complex is the biggest project undertaken by the Zahira College Old Boys Associatio­n headed by Fouzul Hameed and Jisthy Fahmi, the vice president of the OBA headed the swimming pool project.
