University Obstetric Unit for women at De-soysa Hospital refurbishe­d by NOLIMIT

Expectant mothers who use the services of the University Obstetric Unit at De Soysa Maternity Hospital for Women in Colombo 8 are expected to benefit from a refurbishe­d maternity ward with state of the art facilities to improve child and maternal health.

The unit, renovated at a cost of sum Rs. 1.6 million, was officially opened by the Minister of Health, Maithripal­a Sirisena, on June 28th, 2012. Other dignitarie­s who graced the special occasion included Director General of Health Services Dr. Ajith Mendis, Senior Prof. Harsha Senaviratn­e, Head and Professor in Obstetrics & Gynecology Hemantha Senanayake, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo Prof. Rohan Jayasekara and Director of the De Soysa Hospital Dr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, along with Amjad Hassan - General Manager - NOLIMIT, M.H Mohomed Jaufar - Operations Manager - NOLIMIT, M. Rifandeen - Operations Manager - NOLIMIT and A. L. M. Akeel Manager - Marketing of NOLIMIT.

Mr. M. H. M. Jaufar informed that the scope of work carried out at the facility was the developmen­t of the University Obstetric Unit which includes the Labour room, Antenatal & Postnatal Wards and the Wash Rooms. "This unit stands to benefit nearly 5,000 women who use the facility each year," he said. "NOLIMIT continues to put resources toward the developmen­t of health care in Sri Lanka. This is an example of our effort to ensure that services are in line with the needs of the communitie­s which we serve," Jaufar said. NOLIMIT to- date revamped and refurbishe­d many other health care institutio­ns in the country, including Ward 13 of the Maharagama Cancer Hospital, Ward 04 at Kalubowila Teaching Hospital and Colour furbishing the Lady Ridgeway Hospital ward 12. Renovation works are now underway at Negombo Base Hospital's Ward No.3.

"We are proud of the work that was done to create a safer, more comfortabl­e atmosphere for the delivery of our future sons and daughters. I thank the staff at the hospital for their support in facilitati­ng the renovation of this unit that is safe and healthy and will meet the needs of our expectant mothers," said M. H. M. Jaufar of NOLIMIT.
