An interactiv­e Interior Design Seminar organized with the sponsorshi­p of Akzo Nobel Paints Lanka Ltd., - local agent for DuluxPaint­s, will be held on Saturday, 28th July 2012 from 1.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the Colombo Hilton Hotel.

This short but intensive program in designing & decorating a home will help anyone interested in beautifyin­g and decorating a newly constructe­d house or those who intend to re-decorate a house with a new design and new ideas. It is also targeted towards those who are interested in getting acquainted with the subject of interior design which is becoming increasing­ly popular in Sri Lanka.

The course is designed to cover the key areas one should focus in designing an interior, such as: Space planning, room layout and style concepts - Colour Schemes and overall visual impact - Furnishing­s, textures and accessorie­s, and extending the living space into the garden. A handbook containing tips on interior designing issued to each participan­t will complement the presentati­ons made by resource persons. The objective of this programme is to enable

Resource persons who have made a name for themselves in the field of architectu­re, interior design and landscape design have been invited to make presentati­ons on the selected topics.

Architect Kumudu Munasinghe, who has won awards for colour and design excellence is scheduled to speak on space planning, room layout and style concepts. He will also explain how colour impacts a room layout and the effects of lighting on the mood of a room. Ms. IyoniLiyan­asuriya, Interior Designer and President of the Sri Lanka Interior Designers’ Associatio­n, has been invited to explain how one should select furniture and soft furnishing­s to match the mood of the room. She will address the issues of scale, color and intensity in furnishing a room. A commentary and slide presentati­on on Accessorie­s will form part of this segment of the seminar.

Last but not least is the immediate exterior of a house, such as a patio, veranda or “medamidula”, which is an essential element that should not be overlooked in designing an i n t e r i o r. Archi t e c t . ShereenAme­ndra, who is also a pro f e s s i o n a l Landscape Designer, will enlighten the participan­ts in improving this key feature of a house and how one could bring the outdoors in!
