Sri Lanka’s first ever Young Water Profession­als Symposium

Sri Lanka Water Partnershi­p ( SLWP) together with the co- sponsors, I n t e r nat i o n a l Wat e r Management Institute ( IWMI) & Unilever Pureit announced the first ever Young Water Profession­als Symposium to be held from 22nd - 23rd November 2012.

The symposium is open to graduate level mid career water profession­als (below 35 years) employed in water sector institutio­ns with at least seven years of work/ study experience in water related matters.

Such individual­s are encouraged to submit one page abstracts before the 10th of August under any of the following subject areas, namely; optimizing water utilizatio­n, water delivery, economic/ financial feasibilit­y, good governance, environmen­tal stability as well as cross cutting themes. Joint papers dealing with intersecto­ral issues are also encouraged.

Issuing a collective communiqué, the main organizer SLWP and the event associates IWMI & Unilever Pureit stated, “This is the first ever Young Water Pro f e s s i o n a l s Symposium to be held in Sri Lanka, presenting a unique opportunit­y for Young water profession­als for their high-level involvemen­t in knowledge generation in the water category.

We further anticipate that this symposium will serve as a platform to voice and share knowledge to better understand the water footprint in Sri Lanka.”

The abstracts which should be submitted on or before 10th August will be evaluated by a technical committee of sector experts and 25 selected applicants will be requested to submit the full paper version which should not exceed 10 pages.

Selected papers will be presented by the respective authors at the symposium.

Selected presenters will be eligible for an honorarium of up to Rs 20,000/and the best two presenters will be sponsored to participat­e in a selected internatio­nal water related event. A special prize will also be awarded to the best presentati­on on the theme “Optimizing water Utilizatio­n - Water quality”.
