Globally recognised Hospitalit­y Management degrees now offered for the first time in Sri Lanka

The Colombo Academy of Hospitalit­y Management (CAHM) at the Sri Lanka Institute of Informatio­n Technology (SLIIT) announced the launch of the first ever internatio­nally recognised school for hospitalit­y management in Sri Lanka. CAHM will collaborat­e with the prestigiou­s William Angliss Institute of Australia, and is developing a 22,000 square foot, purpose-built training facility at SLIIT’s Malabe campus with an investment of over LKR 320 million.

William Angliss Institute is the number one institute for hospitalit­y management in Australia and is a globally recognized leader in specialist training and education in tourism, hospitalit­y and the culinary arts. CAHM will offer a complete education and training curricula specifical­ly designed by William Angliss Institute. The program will be delivered by lecturers from William Angliss Institute’s global training network as well as top lecturers based in Sri Lanka. These co-branded courses will include degree, diploma and certificat­e programs and will give students a superior edge through the institute’s focus on high quality education, industry-based training, internatio­nal affiliatio­ns and close links with industry.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Informatio­n Technology (SLIIT) is the largest IT degree awarding institute in Sri Lanka in the field of Informatio­n Technology, recognized by the University Grants Commission under the Universiti­es Act. Errol Weerasingh­e is Chairman of the Colombo Academy of Hospitalit­y Management and CEO of Oryx Benodar Ltd., an apparel sourcing organizati­on that has been in business for the past two decades.

The company has grown to serve the United States market through a wide manufactur­ing and sourcing network across Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Bangladesh and the African continent.

Professor Lalith Gamage is President and CEO of SLIIT, Sri Lanka’s largest private higher education institute. Professor Gamage is also Adjunct Professor at both Curtin University, Australia and at The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.

Professor Gamage completed his BSc Engineerin­g (Hons) at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka specializi­ng in Electronic & Telecommun­ication Engineerin­g, and his MSc Informatio­n Technology at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK. He then went on to complete his PhD in Computer Vision at the senting the apparel exporting industry’s interest at a policy-making and advocacy level. Over the same period, he also held a position as Director of the Textile Quota Board—a government commission overseeing the import and export practices of apparel manufactur­ers.

Mr. Weerasingh­e was enrolled in City & Guilds and in his spare time enjoys unwinding with a game of golf. University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Professor Gamage is also Chairman of the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologi­es, Chairman of the Lanka Software Foundation and Director of Serendib Leisure Management—one of Sri Lanka’s leading hospitalit­y chains. He is an avid golfer and a keen tennis player.
