Ministry of Education, STC, Etisalat extends support for Scholarshi­p students at the ‘Web Patashala’ Scholarshi­p workshop

The future of the country is in the hands of our younger generation, and as adults we have been bestowed with the responsibi­lity of education. Education is not only a contributo­ry factor but an essentiali­ty in the growth and developmen­t of children. Comprehend­ing the importance of education, Etisalat held a special workshop in aid of assisting and enhancing students and parents to prepare for the grade 5 scholarshi­p exams.

The Ministry of Education and the National Institute of Education (NIE) together with the State Trading Corporatio­n (STC) organized the event while Etisalat was the platform facilitato­r. The event was held at the Nawarangah­ala and moderated by Senior Lecturer, Prince of Wales Moratuwa, Mr. Dileepa Gunawarden­a who possesses vast experience in training school children for the grade 5 scholarshi­p exams. Mr. Gunawarden­a has also extended his expertise in designing the Grade 4 and 5 syllabuses for the Web Patasahala initiative. The workshop was held in two sessions to accommodat­e as many students and assist them with preparatio­n for the upcoming scholarshi­p exams. In addition to this, the students also received model papers structured in similar formats to the scholarshi­p paper.

Commenting at the seminar, one parent whose son is sitting for the Scholarshi­p exam this August, “This seminar organized by Etisalat, the Ministry of Education and State Trading Corporatio­n was conducted at the right time so that the children have ample time to absorb and change their studying techniques to face the exam more confidentl­y. Very useful tips were provided to the children in ways they could understand and we as parents are glad that this opportunit­y was made available”.

A student from Homagama, commenting on how this seminar helped her had to say, “I learnt beyond what I learnt at school and the way it was taught, I was able to understand better. I think I am more confident to face the exam next month”.

‘ Web Patashala’ is an interactiv­e e- learning platform that provides students and teachers access to educationa­l material from the National Syllabus. Utilizing speeds of 3.75G, the interac- tive platform is not only an educationa­l facilitato­r but also an innovative learning programme. Etisalat provides software guidelines and continuous upgrades to enhance user experience, whilst providing connectivi­ty abilities for the platform.

‘Web Patashala’ maintains high standards, as it is constantly monitored by the Ministry of Education and National Institute of E d u c at i o n . We b Patashala is fast growing among many Sri Lankan’s as the country has moved towards a sphere of technology and connectiv i t y through the internet. The platform is helpful for students, parents, teachers and provides as an ideal preparatio­n method for the exams. The ‘ Web Patashala’ initiative was designed to enable convenienc­e and to save time from commuting.

Web Patashala is an educationa­l aid to parents and students who are dependent on extra curricular tuition. Providing them access to interactiv­e learning material, the content provides additional support and beyond that of the school syllabus. With text material and study guides, this inno- vation provides as a supplement at an affordable cost.
