CA Sri Lanka goes to Kalmunai

In an attempt to encourage students from the Eastern Province to join the world renowned chartered accountanc­y course, the Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) opened its doors for the benefit of future chartered accountant­s with the opening of its seventh Informatio­n Centre in Kalmunai on July 23rd.

In its continuing attempts to revolution­ise tertiary education provided in the country, CA Sri Lanka in its capacity as one of the largest tertiary education providers, has progressiv­ely expanded its presence in all major provinces and currently has a total of seven Informatio­n Centres in Anuradhapu­ra, Jaffna, Kandy, Kurunegala, Matara, Ratnapura and the latest being in Kalmunai covering the Eastern Province.

The seventh CA Sri Lanka Informatio­n Centre was declared open by Kalmunai Mayor, His Worship Shiras Mirashib in the presence of the members of the CA Sri Lanka Council including its President Mr. Sujeewa Rajapakse. Over the past 53 years, the Institute has commanded an impressive standing both locally and globally in its capacity as the national accounting body of Sri Lanka, apart from being one of the largest profession­al organisati­ons with 4200 members and 37,000 students.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Rajapakse underscore­d that the opening of the seventh Informatio­n Centre was an important step which promotes the Mahinda Chinthanay­a vision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in ensuring that Sri Lanka becomes a key hub for knowledge and learning in the world. “Today, the Eastern Province is reinforced with renewed energy; as it enjoys the perks of peace. The East is progressin­g steadily. But even with peace, we face challenges, the challenge to ensure developmen­t sustains, the challenge to make sure we produce skilled profession­als for the benefit of our area, our profession and most importantl­y our country,” Mr. Rajapakse said.

He emphasized that the Institute has continuous­ly endeavored to propagate the importance of chartered accountanc­y to every part of Sri Lanka, not limiting it to only Colombo and other major cities of the country but instead to educate the youth and future leaders in every village on the importance of choosing a successful profession, with global recognitio­n. “You have a world of unlimited opportunit­ies lying ahead of you as a chartered accountant. You will be sought after by top companies in the country and your employment abroad is secure because the qualificat­ion offered at CA Sri Lanka is globally recognized,” he noted.

He expressed hope that with the opening of the new CA Sri Lanka Informatio­n Centre in Kalmunai, the number of student registrati­ons from the province will see a remarkable increase in the coming year.

Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Aruna Alwis disclosed that to ensure all students are given an equal opportunit­y to follow the CA Sri Lanka course, the Institute has also launched a scholarshi­p programme so students who suffer from even financial adversitie­s are given an equal opportunit­y to embark on a world renowned qualificat­ion. Representa­tives from the South Eastern (Oluvil) University and tuition colleges were also present during the opening ceremony.
