August bring youthful films to AC

As in the previous films, the main protagonis­ts are the mammoth Manny, the sloth Sid, sabre-toothed cat Diego, and, in a parallel storyline, the sabre-toothed squirrel Scrat. -year-old daughter Peaches who has a crush on Ethan. Peaches’ best friend, a molehog named Louis who also appears to have a crush on her. When Manny catches Peaches hanging with Ethan after he told her not to, Manny and Peaches have a falling out. Soon after, the breakup of the continent separates Manny from his family. Manny gets stuck on a floating ice raft together with Sid, Diego, and Sid’s annoying grandmothe­r Granny. A large moving landmass drives Ellie, Peaches, Crash and Eddie, Louis, Ethan, and a mass of other animals towards a land bridge, where they hope to reunite with Manny.

‘Brave’, an animation adventure of a princess who wages a war to undo a spell that destroyed her family is now being released at the Superior 3D of the Majestic Cineplex, Colombo.

Directed by Andrews and Chapman and codirected by Purcell, the film is written by Mark Andrews, Steve Purcell, Brenda Chapman, and Irene Mecchi and produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distribute­d by Walt Disney Pictures.

The film’s voice cast features Kelly Macdonald, Julie Walters, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane, and John Ratzenberg­er. To make the most complex visuals possible, Pixar completely rewrote their animation system for the first time in 25 years. It is the first movie to use the Dolby Atmos sound format.

Set in the highlands of 10th century Scotland, a skilled archer named Merida defies an age-old custom, causing chaos in her kingdom.

In Scotland, King Fergus of Clan DunBroch presents his young daughter Merida with a bow on her birthday. y. While practising, ing, Merida encounters nters a will- o’- the-wisp. Soon afterwards, Mor’du, a giant demon bear, attacks the family. Merida escapes along with her mother Queen Elinor while Fergus fights off the bear alongside his men at the cost of his left leg. Years later, Elinor has since given birth to identical triplet boys, and Merida has become a free-spirited and adventurou­s teenager. One night, her mother informs her she is to be betrothed to one of her father’s allied clans: Dingwall, Macintosh, or MacGuffin. Oblivious to her mother’s attempts to appease her by telling her a legend of a power-hungry prince who broke off from his duty and caused the ruin of a kingdom, Merida is dissatisfi­ed with the arranged marriage.

A collection of movies on youths with a variety of genres from classic independen­t to comedy and teen film will be screened during the weekly film screening at 6 pm on every Tuesday at the American Center, auditorium during the month of August.

The film series will start with ‘My Own Private Idaho’, Gus Van Sant’s classic independen­t film loosely based on Shakespear­e’s Henriad will be screened on August 7.

Starring River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves, in this retelling, Reeves plays a wealthy young man who spends his time with a gang of street kids while he waits for his inheritanc­e; Phoenix is his troubled best friend. The two set off on a voyage of self-discovery that is as unique as it is ultimately revealing.

‘Reality Bites’ a film on a group of close friends awkwardly adjusts to adulthood in this time capsule of a comedy which will be screened at August 14.

Ben Stiller’s film with a likeable cast and a witty script, the move revolves around the friends who are overeducat­ed and underemplo­yed, too immature to know how to cope with the complexiti­es of their relationsh­ips, but old enough to know that they must learn. The film stars Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo, and Ben Stiller.

A coming-of-age story like no other, ‘Stand By Me’ follows four boys who go into the forest to find a dead body and it will be screened on August 21. Along the way they experi- ence a series of true-life dramas that change their lives forever. Directed by Rob Reiner, the film is bitterswee­t and honest in its portrayal of the end of childhood, and is played by River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, Keifer Sutherland, and Jerry O’Connell.

‘Rebel Without a Cause’, an original teen movie in which James Dean plays a rebellious teenager is who lost in a family, and society, that is adrift will be screened on August 28.

Dean and his equally lost friends are torn apart by violence, distrust, and their own insecuriti­es. The film also stars Natalie Wood, Sal Mineo and Dennis Hopper.
