Skipper Dilshan guides Basnahira Cricket Dundees

- By M. Shamil Amit Basnahira Cricket Dundee

Basnahira Cricket Dundees skipper T.M. Dilshan guided his side with an all round performance to an easy 34 runs win over Kandurata Warriors in the second match of the Sri Lanka Premier League T20 cricket tournament played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

The match was curtailed to 13 overs after a heavy rain during the latter part of the first match delayed the start of the game.

Kandurata Warriors chasing a daunting target of 130 runs from 13 overs were able to make only 95 for 7. Though they were given a solid start by openers skipper Samaraweera and Kithruwan Withanage who together added 37 runs the others failed to make any impression as they fell back when they lost three quick wickets for the addition of only 14 runs.

Apart from Samaraweera only Thisara Perera was able to make any impression when he made a top score of 35. The dismissal of Perera saw them falling back again as two unnecessary run outs put them in a spot of bother with the run rate climbing to just under ten runs an over which proved to be too much for the tail end batting to achieve.

Earlier Kandurata Warriors skipper Thilan Samaraweera's decision to invite Basnahira Cricket Dundees to take first lease of the wicket boomeranged as T.M. Dilshan and Brad Hodge changed the complexion of the game having made them to struggle in the early part of the innings. The pair made things look easy with Dilshan’s power packed hitting frustrating the Kandurata Warrior bowlers.
