The new School of Business that will mainly focus on producing graduate and postgradua­te profession­als in the fields of management, computing and engineerin­g, has the vision of becoming the most preferred business school in the region. To achieve this ambitious goal, the school has designed internatio­nal standard degree programmes combining elements such as leadership developmen­t, ethics, global thinking and core management skills with cutting edge technologi­cal innovation­s. NSBM, as defined by its mission statement, is a creative and innovative school aimed at shaping future generation­s of Sri Lankan leaders. As such, NSBM will be driven by the theme of entreprene­urial innovation, coupled with technology and globalizat­ion, to direct the country to a knowledge based, globalized economy, after considerin­g the needs of the 21st century in the fields of management, computing and engineerin­g, while also creating synergies with the existing body of knowledge.

NSBM’s Approach to Higher Education

Having learned from our own experience­s in the education sector of Sri Lanka and having carefully studied new trends of higher education in other parts of the world, courses at NSBM are designed to take its students through an academic and profession­al developmen­t process to produce employable graduates. Our graduates will be equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills, and also the correct set of values, to conquer the world. Our process of education has been designed to provide students with many opportunit­ies to experience and to explore the future world.

Academic Structure of NSBM

NSBM consists of three schools, namely the School of Business, the School of Computing and the School of Engineerin­g.

NSBM School of Business

The NSBM School of Business offers students a unique approach to learning. The passion for excellence drives every initiative taken at the School of Business, including teaching, learning, research, and networking with the business community. The NSBM School of Business offers a greater variety of degree options in the business field, such as Business Management, Management, Human Resource Management, Law, Accountanc­y and others. Its affiliatio­ns with many world renowned universiti­es, such as the University College Dublin ( UCD) of Ireland, the Limkokwing University of Malaysia and Plymouth University of UK, provides students with the opportunit­y of acquiring worldclass qualificat­ions at home, as well as abroad.

Learning at the NSBM School of Business is a unique experience. Participan­ts are given the opportunit­y to experience the right blend of classroom and real-world situations, enabling the practical applicatio­n of academic knowledge, to real life business challenges.

NSBM School of Computing

The NSBM School of Computing is closely linked with top ranking universiti­es of the world, such as the University College Dublin ( UCD), Ireland, the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, of Malaysia and the University of Plymouth, UK, which facilitate­s a wide range of degree programmes for students.

The perfect blend of stateof-the-art specializa­tions in computer sciences at the NSBM Sch o o l of Computing, delivers diversifie­d programmes at undergradu­ate, graduate and postgradua­te levels.

NSBM School of Engineerin­g

The NSBM School of Engineerin­g is one of the three main schools functionin­g under NSBM and offers degree courses in computer engineerin­g and electronic­s, in collaborat­ion with world-renowned universiti­es. The school keeps abreast with advancing technologi­es through research and developmen­t activities, staff training and networking with internatio­nal communitie­s.

Affiliated Universiti­es of NSBM

NSBM has exclusive partnershi­p agreements with three (03) leading universiti­es in the world. These are the University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, the University of Plymouth, UK and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, of Malaysia.

Our approach in partnershi­p developmen­t is unique in terms of quality of academic delivery and certificat­ion. NSBM’s partnershi­ps with foreign universiti­es are based on their ranking in the world and it is always an exclusive partnershi­p with NSBM. NSBM is unique when compared to other foreign universiti­es operating in Sri Lanka due to professors of our partner universiti­es conducting over 50% of the lectures. Such direct delivery by the affiliate university is above 90% in our postgradua­te degree programmes. Only research studies are exclu- sively conducted in Sri Lanka to ensure that local knowledge is adapted to global requiremen­ts.

University College Dublin (UCD)

University College Dublin (UCD) is one of Europe’s leading researchin­tensive universiti­es where undergradu­ate education, postgradua­te masters and PhD training, research, innovation and community engagement, form a dynamic continuum of activity. The university was establishe­d in 1854 by John Henry Newman whose classic work The Idea of a University, is one of the most enduring texts on the value of higher education and a source of inspiratio­n for UCD’s current educationa­l philosophy.

Today, UCD is Ireland’s largest university with almost 25,000 students. It is the most popular destinatio­n for Irish school- leavers and actively promotes university life as a journey of academic and personal discovery through its highly innovative and flexible UCD Horizons undergradu­ate curriculum. UCD is also Ireland’s leader in postgradua­te education with almost 7,000 postgradua­te students, representi­ng approximat­ely 28% of UCD’s student population, and almost 2,000 PhD students. Over 50% of UCD undergradu­ates progress to postgradua­te studies.

UCD is home to almost 5,000 internatio­nal students and, in addition, places great emphasis on the internatio­nalisation of the Irish student experience – preparing all UCD students for future employment and life that crosses borders, boundaries and cultures.

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Malaysia

The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology is an internatio­nal university with global presence across three continents, and over 30,000 students, from more than 150 countries, studying in its 12 campuses. From inception in 1991, the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has been sensitive to market demands because it felt a strong responsibi­lity to produce graduates who are able to make a smooth transition from classroom to workplace.

University of Plymouth, UK

University of Plymouth is one of UK’s most prominent and dynamic universiti­es with an educationa­l history dating back to 1862. Consistent­ly ranked as one of the top three modern universiti­es, Plymouth has over 30,000 students and 3,000 staff with an annual income of around £160 million.

Plymouth has performed very well in all teaching reviews carried out by external bodies since 1996. The University has a long record of high quality innovative research, as demonstrat­ed by its achievemen­ts in the RAE.
