Going green is a change you make for the entire world

-

We often talk of going green being an individual task. For example last week, we looked at the complex and long term impact of wasting electricity. For you, it maybe something small, but when it adds up - that is when it makes an impact. Sometime we, as individuals fail to see, no matter how rich or poor we are, whether we are educated or not, we all share one planet. At the end of the day your actions affect the people around you and vice versa.

So when you choose to ‘go green’ you choose to help in the battle to save the delicate nature of mother earth. The first step, and the most obvious, is that the environment around you will improve – by producing less garbage, making compost so that you have more natural fertiliser to use for plants in your home etc. The next step is that you will lead those around you by example, people will see the change in your attitude and your environment and they too will be motivated by your actions to make a greater effort in preserving the environment. The third step is a very big one, and may take long to be noticed, this is when the actions of you and your community in preserving the environment is replicated by other individuals in the country or maybe even the world. So if you begin by recycling just the plastic in your house, that is good. You are preventing even that small amount of plastic from harming the environment and wildlife. If you and ten of your friends begin to recycle plastic, then that much more plastic is not added to the environment. Now imagine if each person got ten other friends to begin recycling, that is a total of one hundred people helping you to save the planet.

SO always remember that by choosing to go green, you are helping yourself and the communities around you and maybe even the world.

Just think about it, if somebody burns some garbage near your house, you cannot help but inhale the smoke and start coughing. The same thing

happens the world over, the harmful substances we add to the environment harms another individual, another animal, another lake or river along the line. So start small, and make a change. Continue to read this space, next week, we will give you some ideas on small projects you can do to help preserve the environment.
