Commercial Bank and Central Bank to develop entreprene­urship skills of SMES

Commercial Bank of Ceylon has launched a programme in collaborat­ion with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to enhance entreprene­urship skills in the Small and Medium Scale Enterprise ( SME) sector.

The first seminar of this programme was held recently for entreprene­urs who are in the SME and Micro Enterprise sectors in Nuwara Eliya, the bank said.

Officials of the Central Bank including M S K Dharmaward­ena - Additional Director and Jayantha Abeyratne - Assistant Director of the Regional Developmen­t Department and representa­tives of Commercial Bank including Anura Wijekoon, Senior Manager of the Nuwara Eliya Branch and Mohan Fernando, Manager - Developmen­t Credit and around 80 entreprene­urs from areas such as Nuwara Eliya, Labukele, Moon Plains and Hawa Eliya were present at the event.

Presentati­ons at the event were made by representa­tives from the Central Bank and Developmen­t Credit Department of Commercial Bank on aspects pertaining to Entreprene­urship, Business Management, Financial Management and Marketing Management.

" This joint effort can significan­tly raise the level of entreprene­urship among SMEs and Micro Enterprise­s, thereby enhancing their viability and potential," Chandana Gunasekera, Assistant General Manager - Personal Banking and SME of Commercial Bank said. " These sectors have been identified for their potential to contribute significan­tly to the economy of the country. This programme is therefore most timely."
