National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) conducted its 28th Diploma Awards Ceremony on 28 August 2012 at BMICH Assembly Hall. NIBM Diploma Awards Ceremony is an important and a colorful event for which more than 4000 Diploma Awardees and parents were attended. Hon. Dullas Alahapperu­ma, Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Developmen­t and Hon. Duminda Dissanayak­e, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Developmen­t graced the occasion. His Excellency Ashok Kantha, High Commission­er of India delivered the keynote address as the special guest of honour of the Diploma Awards Ceremony in the morning session while Hon. Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Senior Minister of Internatio­nal Monetary Cooperatio­n delivered the keynote address as the special guest of honour of the Diploma Awards Ceremony in the evening session.

National Institute of Business Management – better known as NIBM to many – is the premier business education institute in Sri Lanka. Founded in 1968, a span over a period of 45 years of operations, NIBM constantly upgrades its programmes to suit needs of the today’s business world. The institute functions under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Developmen­t. NIBM is a self–sustained public institutio­n with a non- profit motive and always operates with a great concern for the betterment of profession­als in their relevant fields.

National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) has gained many special achievemen­ts in the field of education such as: ISO- 9001- 2008 certificat­ion for quality of service, National Quality Award (merit) Certificat­e, the winner of Business Excellence Award in the state sector by National Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka, Listed within the first best twenty most respected business entities in the country by LMD and accreditat­ions and rec- ognition from internatio­nal universiti­es and the list goes on.

NIBM, over its 44 years of operations has greatly contribute­d to develop competenci­es of individual­s to meet the challenges of the emerging knowledge and skills based economy. It caters to the increasing competency requiremen­ts of profession­als in both public and private sectors. The institute conducts around 30 Diploma programmes, in different discipline­s of businesses by reflecting its diverse approach in competency developmen­t. NIBM trains more than 12,000 participan­ts from different business sectors in a given year. NIBM adds premium value to each and every participan­t of these diploma programmes and enables them to effectivel­y function in the knowledge based economy. The institutio­n has popularize­d various programs among school leavers, providing them with alternativ­e avenues to develop their career paths and thereby giving them necessary orientatio­n to enter the job market.

For the diploma holders, this occasion is a significan­t milestone in their lives. It is a proud day for them for their families, friends and of course, for the faculty of NIBM who guided them to successful­ly attain their Diplomas.

The mission of NIBM is: to be the best business education organizati­on in Sri Lanka and to date, it has lived up to this mission. NIBM continuous­ly upgrades the programmes with new and innovative areas of competency developmen­t inline with changes in the modern business world. It competes successful­ly with several government and private sector management education institutes. The increasing popularity of NIBM among the private sector and the public sector reflects a strong performanc­e rating of, which the management and the faculty of NIBM who are guided by Prof. Lakshman Jayetillek­e, the Chairman and Dr. E A Weerasingh­e, Director General of NIBM can be proud of. The progress of NIBM has shown that the success is not just a matter of chance but a matter of choice: the choice to work hard and win over the world.
