Art Exhibition at D.S.

-

D. S . S e n a n a y a k e College Colombo 07 conducted their annual Art exhibition of the primary division on July 30. The chief guest at the occasion was Gotabhaya Jayarathna Secretary of Education

The principal speaking at the occasion stated that Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items often with symbolic significance in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses.

It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and models of expressions, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture and painting. Art is a part of aesthetic studies and the intention is to stimulate thoughts and emotions. Art enriches childrens lives.

Consider the world without Art. What would be the impact on the lack of graphics on the children’s favourite video game. Art makes the children more thoughtful and develops analytical skills.

Art is something that is both functional and aesthetic and pleasing to the eyes of the children. Creative Art expands a childs ability to interact with the world around them, and provide a new set of skills for self expression and commu- nication. Art not only develops analytical skills but also cultivates important skills that benefit a childs development. When a child draws a picture, paints a portrait, that child is beginning to communicate visually.

Children express themselves through art on a fundamental level, sometime their artwork is the manifestation of that expression, but more often the physical process of creating is the expression. Art is one area where children and their creativity have free ren.

Mrs. Lilani Samaranayake Deputy Principal a highly refined and cultured lady, who holds the best of virtues in the highest order has set an example to the other schools by the manner in which an exhibition has to be conducted. All children in the primary participated and certificates and medals were awarded by the chief guest Mr. Gotabhaya Jayarathna.

The Principal Mr. D.M.D. Dissanayake congratulated the children whose artwork is on display for their effort and creation. He thanked the parents and members of the staff for extending their co-opration to make this event a great success.
