Major factors to consider in choosing an institute for your higher studies

Selecting the right institute to attend for your higher studies is a very tough and very very important decision .This article includes informatio­n on different factors to keep in mind when choosing the best college for you.

01Reputati­on of the college / university

It is regarding that how the university ranked nationally. For example if it is a UK university, where is it in UK university ranking . And also you will find different rankings and try to find with an acceptable body.Eg;Guardian Uk university ranking .This factor may have a direct impact on your future employment activities or admission to the postgradua­te studies of your choice .And more importantl­y the university should be under the commonweal­th universiti­es list where the degrees are recognize by the Sri Lankan university Grant Commission . available .for example ; computer and engineerin­g labs /internet capabiliti­es ,WIFI/Proper library facilities

Location is most likely a factor for every potential student.How easy to reach the college .if you travel by bus how long time it take and availabili­ty of the buses .If you travel by your own transport ,do they have the ample parking facilities , And how the location help you to reach your other requiremen­ts

Graduation from the university is definitely more important than getting accepted .Without graduation what is the point of being accepted in the first place .When considerin­g a college ,review the percentage of students who complete the full programme. It is a very good indication of quality of the education and dedication towards to students success

Another metric to consider is the retention rate, which explains what percentage of freshmen (1st year students) complete the degree programme. A high retention rate indicates overall students satisfacti­on with their first year experience at the institute.

As important as academics are when choosing a college ,student life can be just as important for some young adults since there are other reasons why you should go to college ..If you want an active student life ,you need to live with other students .

It is a critical factor to consider that what much of a support service you get from the institute until you graduate .specially the proper communicat­ion with students is a main point. Check whether they have it.

To what extent are a student union ,social activities ,student clubs ,organizati­ons ,leadership opportunit­ies ,athletic activities ,and cultural activities ,and talent building activities or interest to you. Other than these main factors there may be some other factors also to be considered .Eg; is the cost of the programme affordable ,what is the student teacher ratio .,special assistance , jobs right out of school,curriculum,safty statistics ,party life ,alumni network, Final word Looking for the perfect college / institute can be difficult. But you can simplify the process by focusing on important goals for your college career . Instead of analyzing each of these metrics for every college on your list ,just pick the most important ones , based on your needs .
