APIIT launches the BA (Hons) Degree in Marketing Management

The suite of business degrees provides students with the opportunit­y to develop skills and knowledge from either a generalist perspectiv­e or through profession­al specializa­tion.

The awards share a common first year, allowing students the maximum choice opportunit­y. Innovative learning and teaching approaches are designed to ensure student employabil­ity is high on the agenda.

APIIT Business School students are able to present themselves to prospectiv­e employers confidentl­y that they meet the demands of contempora­ry employment.

What is it about

The BA (Hons) Marketing Management award facilitate­s understand­ing of the theories and concepts that underpin effective marketing, and the practical skills required to undertake a career in marketing. Key areas covered include the underpinni­ng core modules of marketing principles and marketing in practice, together with additional modules on consumer behaviour, marketing research, marketing communicat­ions and internatio­nal marketing. Combined with other strategic marketing and general business modules, this enables students to acquire a clear understand­ing of the central role of marketing within the business world, and how contempora­ry marketing management impacts in a variety of contexts.

What you do

In the first year of the award, you will study the wider business environmen­t, the role of marketing within that environmen­t and how various functions and aspects of an organizati­on come together to serve the market.

In the second year, the emphasis starts to shift towards more specialist study of marketing and how marketing specialist­s add value to the organizati­on through the understand­ing of customers. Modules focus on the practice of marketing and include Consumer Behavior and Business-to-Business Marketing.

The third year of the award is highly focused on marketing, covering key areas such as marketing research, brand management, marketing communicat­ions, internatio­nal marketing and strategic marketing management.

Students will also need to produce a project following an inde- pendent investigat­ion in to a specialist area of marketing of their choice. In addition, as you progress through the course, you will acquire a range of business and marketing- specific soft skills valued by employers, supported by a balanced mix of teaching methods and a variety of assessment approaches.

Admission Requiremen­ts

The qualificat­ions required for admission are 2 Passes at GCE (Advanced Level) Examinatio­n and 5 Passes inclusive of a credit pass for English at the GCE (Ordinary Level) Examinatio­n, or successful completion of the APIIT Degree Foundation Programme. Those with additional qualificat­ions may receive advanced entry to higher levels of the programme.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of lectures, tutorials, group discussion­s, individual/ group presentati­ons, knowledge sessions, industrial visits, video presentati­ons, case studies and a series of research projects. These are intended not only to develop students’ practical skills and applicatio­n of management techniques in the business, but also to develop their ability to work efficientl­y in a group or independen­tly in a discipline­d and structured environmen­t. Students are required to undertake a project as part of the training. The project requires students to design and carry out research into a business problem.

Career Opportunit­ies

Graduates in marketing management will have the skills and knowledge to start a career in the following areas: Marketing, advertisin­g, public relations, brand management, retailing and general management. Graduates can embark on career in commercial organizati­ons as applicatio­n developers or IT system analysts. Typical job areas are Analysts, Applicatio­n Consultant­s, Quality Assurance, IT marketing and pre sales, Project Management, Management Trainees, Web Developmen­t and also Entreprene­urs offering IT & Business services.
