Come learn about Aviation at ‘Srilankan Airlines’ Career Day

SriLankan Airlines’ training arm - The Internatio­nal Aviation Academy (IAA) - has organized an Aviation Career Day for young men and women to learn how easy it is to embark on rewarding careers in the global air transport and hospitalit­y industries.

The Career Day will be held on Tuesday, 18th September 2012 at the Bougainvil­lea Ballroom of the Galadari Hotel in Colombo. Entrance is free and the Career Day will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the convenienc­e of visitors.

“The Career Day is especially designed for school leavers and also those currently studying for their A-levels. A career in Aviation is both rewarding and lucrative, and we want to create awareness among young men and women in Sri Lanka of the wide range of training options we provide. We provide the best path to turn them into profession­als in the aviation industry within a very short time,” said Buddhika Hewawasam, Manager Internatio­nal Aviation Academy.

Also participat­ing in the Career Day will be representa­tives of, the Travel Agents’ Associatio­n of Sri Lanka (TAASL), the Sri Lanka Associatio­n of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO), Emirates Airline and the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka.

Activities at the Career Day will include a seminar on aviation careers, and oneon-one discussion­s with advisors who will provide youngsters with further informatio­n about their career choices.

The Bank of Ceylon will have a special counter at the Career Day which will provide education loan facilities at concession­ary rates to participan­ts.

A wide range of career options in aviation

These programmes are offered at various skill levels, from Foundation Programmes for beginners, to Consultanc­y Level Programmes. Diplomas and Certificat­es are awarded from Internatio­nal Air Transport Associatio­n (IATA), the Universal Federation of Travel Agents’ Associatio­ns (UFTAA), Internatio­nal Civil Aviation Organisati­on (ICAO) or SriLankan Airlines.

Registerin­g for any of the IAA’s training programmes will be as easy as filling out a form, and applicants will be chosen through a selection process. The first 100 persons who register for training programmes of the IAA at the Career Day will receive an amazing 50% discount on course fees.

The IAA is supported by SriLankan Airlines’ global experience of 33 years in the industry. Its classes are conducted both in Colombo and Katunayake.

The IAA is also the Exclusive Training Partner of the Travel Agents’ Associatio­n of Sri Lanka (TAASL). It was presented the award for “Best Tourism Education & Training Effort” at the Presidenti­al Awards for Travel & Tourism in 2009.

Earlier this year, the industry’s global body IATA named the IAA as a ‘Top Ten’ aviation training institutio­n in South Asia.

The IAA is IATA’s exclusive training partner for the Maldives, and last month launched its first overseas branch operation in the Maldivian capital Male.

Its permanent faculty consists of experience­d and qualified profession­als in each field of aviation who hold IATA qualificat­ions in training, supported by a number of external profession­als.
