Ceylinco Life's Saroja qualifies as an FIA

Becomes local insurance industry's only Sri Lankan Fellow of Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK

A Sri Lankan insurance professional has achieved a personal and corporate milestone by qualifying as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, the chartered professional body for actuaries in the UK.

Saroja Kamini Gunatilleke, 28, Senior Manager - Actuarial Services at Ceylinco Life, is the only Sri Lankan with this qualification currently working in the country's insurance industry.

Educated at Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, Ms Gunatilleke secured a B.Sc. (Hons) First Class in Mathematics from the University of Manchester in 2005 and followed it up with an M.Sc. First Class in Actuarial Science from the University of Kent and a Post Graduate Diploma in Actuarial Science from the same university.

Congratulating her on being conferred Fellow status at one of the world's premier institutes for actuaries, Ceylinco Life's Managing Director and CEO R. Renganathan said: "Long term risk management and planning are critical in Life Insurance, and we are proud to employ the only practicing Sri Lankan with this qualification."

"Actuaries provide commercial, financial and prudential advice on the management of a business's assets and liabilities. As experts in risk, they calculate the probability of future events occurring. This is particularly relevant in the development and pricing of our products," Mr. Renganathan added.

The leader in Sri Lanka's life insurance industry for the past eight years, Ceylinco Life has more than 850,000 lives covered by active policies. Gross Written Premium Income for the six months ending 30th June 2012 was Rs 4.9 billion and the value of the company's Life Fund stood at Rs 41.778 billion at that date. Ceylinco Life accounts for 28 per cent of Sri Lanka's life insurance market.
