SOUTH AFRICAN DELEGATION VISITS CINEC PHOTOGRAPHS ARE IN PREFERENCE ORDER
The South African Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Prof. ( Ms) Hlengiwe Mkhize, accompanied by the South African High Commissioner to Sri Lanka His Excellency Geoffrey Doidge and a distinguished South African delegation visited the Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (CINEC) on the 07th of September 2012 as part of the itinerary of their visit to Sri Lanka
The South African Delegation led by Deputy Minister Prof. Mkhize was warmly received by Mr. Lucky Wikramanayake Deputy Chairman of Ceyline Group of Companies, the Board of Directors of CINEC and Capt. Anura Herath Director Training, along with other senior Managers and Academic staff of the campus and accorded a ceremonial welcome by the Navigation and Engineering Cadets of CINEC Campus. The visit marked another significant day for CINEC.
Upon the arrival of Honorable Deputy Minister and her delegation at CINEC, the delegation toured the campus to check on the available training facilities and equipment. Capt. Herath and staff guided the delegation, briefing them about the new state-of-the-art laboratories, classrooms, simulators and recreation facilities available for use of CINEC’s local and foreign students. The members of the delegation had the opportunity to meet and talk to CINEC students from the African continent.
Following the tour, cordial and fruitful discussions were held between Deputy Minister Prof. Mkhize and her delegation with the CINEC Board of Directors and Management. Some of the topics discussed were getting CINEC’s assistance in upgrading the existing maritime training facilities as well as opening of a CINEC Training Center in South Africa, to enable South African and other students, including students from Sri Lanka to receive training in South Africa.
CINEC Malabe campus, having branches in Colombo, Trincomalee and Jaffna is on the verge of expanding internationally, to offer world class education at a very affordable cost.
CINEC Campus, which is located in the picturesque millennium drive, offers 175 study programmes to an annual intake of over 14,000 students both local and foreign. CINEC offers marine programmes for Deck ratings, Motorman, Welder Fitter and Officer Cadet training in Navigation, Marine Engineering and Marine Electrical Engineering for students interested in a career on board ships at sea. In addition, CINEC also offers international degree programs in Engineering, Management, Logistics and IT, in affiliation with Universities from UK, Australia, USA and China.
Mr. Wikramanayake stated that it was great honour and privilege to have Hon. Prof. Ms. Hlengiwe Mkhize, Mr. Geoffrey Quinton Doidge and the distinguished South African delegation to CINEC and Deputy Minister Mkhize and Ambassador Doidge stated that they were most impressed with the facilities and standards maintained at CINEC and looked forward to active participation of CINEC in the upliftment of training and related facilities in South Africa.
