Organised jointly with the Internatio­nal Quizzing Associatio­n’s , the TMC Quiz this year was supported by the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka, CMI Sri Lanka Branch, Link Natural Products, Imperial Institute of Higher Education, ICBT Campus, Amana Insurance and Peoples Bank.

Incidental­ly teams from Royal College had been very dominant in the TMC Wisdom Quiz, throughout the series. They were the overall winners in the inaugural Quiz in 2006, won the top slot for school sector in 2008, and 2009 and also the joint winners with Dharmaraja in 2011

Royal College who fielded two teams at the Quiz as they have most often done in this competitio­n, had D T S Kasun as their captain and Asitha Kuruppu, Dilshan Uthpal, Archanatah Dickwella and Nimsara Seneviratn­e teaming up as winners.

It was encouragin­g to see two other schools, namely Ananda and Musaeus also fielding two teams each, at the Quiz this time. Richmond College Galle, who were the second best team among the schools Dharmaraja College Kandy, Nalanda, Wycherley Internatio­nal and Ladies College taking part for the first time made up the rest of the 11 schools teams.

‘All Thurstanit­es’ another team of individual­s led by Sisira Mark Antony and comprising of Srimal Ratnasingh­e, Sreen Boralessa, Madushka Sooriyaban­dara and Geevantha Weerasingh­e all past captains of Thurstan Colege Quiz teams, emerged as Runners up for a second consecutiv­e year and were awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000/= plus a trophy & certificat­es

Hatton National Bank who fielded two teams won the banking sector award whilst the top slot in the Mercantile category was won by Dialog Axiata. Others who competed in the banking category were Seylan Bank and Peoples Bank with 2 teams each, Commercial Bank, NDB and DFCC who took part in this quiz for the first time

Aitken Spence Cargo, Amba Stormfly, Amba Night Fury and Amba Windwalker­s all from Amba Reserch Interblock­s, Srilankan Airlines together with first time partcipant­s Astron Ltd , 99X Technology, Triad, eMarketing­Eye, CIC Holdings and Hirdaraman­is Intellectu­als were the teams that competed for the mercantile sector award.

The competitio­n was open to 04 sectors – Schools & Educationa­l Institutio­ns, Mercantile Sector, Banks & Financial Institutio­ns & Teams of Individual­s and it was encouragin­g to see 10 new teams entering the fray this year.

A notable feature in the Quiz was that all contestant­s received a certificat­e of participat­ion, while all schools teams were awarded book vouchers to the value of Rs 2500/= courtesy CMI Sri Lanka Branch and also gift vouchers with the compliment­s of DSI.

Highly rated as one of the best table quiz competitio­ns in Sri Lanka, the questions - compiled by founder member of TMC and Sri Lanka’s representa­tive of the Internatio­nal Quizzing Associatio­n UK, Ruwan Senanayake – were of a very high standard as usual and generated much enthusiasm in the audience and the participan­ts alike with visuals and video clips also being a part of some questions in every round.
