ESOFT recruits new students for Bucks New University – UK Honours Degree Programmes
ESOFT Computer Studies (Pvt) Ltd announces that it has started recruiting new students for B.Sc. (Hons) Computing and B.A. (Hons) in Business and Finance Honours Degree (BA) Programmes it is conducting in collaboration with the Bucks New University of the United Kingdom. To this effect, the Bucks New University of the United Kingdom and the ESOFT Computer Studies (Pvt) Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) recently.
Students who complete their Advanced Level exams at this session can enter the Edexcel Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme choosing either the Computing or Business Management fields. This is a modular programme that can be completed in a period of 1 ½ to 2 years. Thereafter, students can complete their Bachelors Degree via the partnership that ESOFT has with the Buckinghamshire New University. Top-up (final year) degree programmes are currently available in the form of B.Sc (Hons) in Computing, and B.A. (Hons) in Business & Finance. Even if your child wishes to follow a different stream, or wishes to enter a state university, we can offer part time classes on the weekends thereby allowing your child to gain a double qualification which would definitely provide a more solid foundation for the future.
Compared to the option of sending children to overseas universities, this option is several times more economical and it is safer as well since your loved ones stay close to home.
The Edexcel HND + Top Up Degree option is popular due to the fact that the HND gives the student a qualification that is equivalent to the first two years of a British Honours Degree, thereby allowing the student to enroll directly into the final year. Compared with those that go through the conventional pathway, this allows for a considerable saving in time. Edexcel HND is a modular programme, where each subject is assessed via an assignment where the student has to demonstrate knowledge of the subject area. There are no written exams.
The previous batch of students of the B. Sc (Hons) in Computing passed with flying colours earning a total of 5 First Class Degrees, and recruitments are now ongoing for the 3rd intake.
ESOFT Computer Studies has been conducting classes from the year 2000, the year of launch of the BIT External Degree Programme by the University of Colombo to date, and has consistently shown the best results in that programme. It is a specially interesting fact that in the five years 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 the Batch Tops of the University of Colombo BIT External Degree Programme are students who have followed the programme through the ESOFT Computer Studies.
The ESOFT Computer Studies is the only higher education institution approved by the University of Moratuwa to conduct classes for its’ BIT Degree Programme. ESOFT conducts classes for the Higher Education Qualifications of the British Computer Society (BCS), the Chartered Institute for Information Technology, and the BCS has given Accredited Course Provider status to ESOFT for conducting these classes. Nimisha Muttiah a Speech Language Pathologist at Penn State University, Pennsylvania, USA on a recent visit to Sri Lanka in July this year, took time to journey to Jaffna; to see for herself how children with special needs were being handled and of her weeklong she spoke Vijayaluxmi Sivananthan of LakbimaNews.
‘I spent most of my time interviewing parents of children with special needs.’ Her particular interest was to know whether there were facilities for special education in Jaffna and the suburbs. Initially Nimisha had been motivated to engage in this exercise as a part of a research project in connection with her doctoral studies; at the end of the visit she felt a need to talk of her experiences to others with a focus on showcasing the hard work of the volunteers.
In the process of her interviews with parents of the intellectually and physically challenged children, Nimisha came upon The Ark, a place to which parents expressed gratitude and praise for caring for the children who could not be accommodated in the regular education system. “The Ark is a residential and day school for children with intellectual impairments,” Nimisha explained. She also mentioned that the facility has been in existence since 1978 and managed by the order of the Holy Family sisters, “the nuns were clearly committed to caring for these special children despite the many challenges faced” clearly expressed how impressed the young researcher was, by what she saw.
Nimisha went on to speak of the school “It accepts both boys and girls between the ages of 6-16 years who have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, intellectual impairments, seizures (fits), learning disability and hyperactivity.” I was also told that “currently the school has enrolled 40 children of whom 25 are residential,” and that “many of the children are residential as their parents have to travel long distances to the school. And it is impossible to make a daily trip.” The sisters who run the school and are engaged in the training and development of the children have had training in Special Education initially in Sri Lanka and subsequently specialized in India. “A few of the hostellers pay a small token fee towards their upkeep while the others are not charged anything, all the children are provided the midday meal by the school,” said Nimisha, happy the school
