Udaya Ranasinghe and Praveena Silva shine

Udaya Ranasinghe of Vidyartha College, Kandy and Praveena Silva of Girl’s High School, Kandy emerged under 18 champions at the Ashok Melvani Memorial Open All Island Ranking Table Tennis Tournament conducted by the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka at S. Thomas’ Indoor Stadium last week.

Udaya Ranasinghe defeated Thilini Wijesiri also of Vidyartha College in a three setter, while Praveena Silva triumphed over Erandi Warusawithana also in a three setter.

The most grueling matches were in the under 15 age category where Udaya Ranasinghe was stretched to five sets before downing Chinthaka Ekanayake to claim a double.

In the girl’s under 15 competition, Muthumal Priyadarshani of Devanda College, Ambalangoda was taken to a three setter by Buddeepani Rajaguru of Maliyadeva College. Kurunegala.
