ARTRA Magazine Endowment 2 will share insights into Colombo’s perceptions and misconceptions of art
How exactly should art be defined? Is art susceptible to a definition? Is there such a thing as ‘good’ and ‘bad’ art? What is the role of an artist? These are some of the primary questions posed and grappled with in the second edition of the ARTRA Magazine. After the launch of ARTRA Magazine Endowment 1. The line up for this second issue includes many unique insights about the paintings and the challenges faced by artists who sell their works at Greenpath. There is a unique story behind every vibrant painting that subtly expresses the condition of art and artists in Sri Lanka. The story of Sarath Yatawara, an artist who was once put on the ped- estal for his artistic achievements but is now unable to do what he does best due to the lack of prominence given to the art he engaged in, is one to look out for.
Azara Jaleel, the editor of ARTRA Magazine hopes the publication will foster interest in the potential of art as a medium for expression. In the second issue, the magazine takes a first step by showcasing insights into what readers may consider as features of art, in a bid to create awareness about the misconception of it as an alternative to design and the challenges faced by artists as a result of these misconceptions.”
