Two hundred and fifteen marketers graduated

In keeping with the vision and the mission of Sri Lanka institute of marketing (SLIM) we are at the threshold of concluding another successful year. This Graduation Ceremony will be the concluding event of SLIM education calendar in 2012.

This event is the fourteenth Graduation Ceremony of SLIM and took place on November 10th 2012 at the Mount Lavinia Hotel in a grand note. There were 215 graduates receiving their accolades from the distinguis­h invitees. Deputy Vice Chancellor - Professor Derrik Godfry of New Buckingham University (UK) graced as the chief guest.

SLIM’s Postgradua­te Diploma in Marketing is a uniquely designed program of study. Designing of this programme has taken much research and planning ultimately to carve out skilled and knowledgea­ble marketers who could establish marketing as the driving force of our mother land, which enhances business and national value. This is focused towards offering prospectiv­e students and practition­ers of marketing an opportunit­y to learn and apply sound theoretica­l concepts to their day to day business situations since marketing is a prac- tical subject.

PGDIP offered by SLIM is a 24 month part time programme which will give students marketing competenci­es from operationa­l level to synthesis level. Students covering all four levels successful­ly are conferred with Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing. The four levels a student would follow are thus; Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing In an era where the profession­al marketing studies were not known much in Sri Lanka SLIM embarked on promoting marketing excellence and elevating the status of marketing in Sri Lanka. This was way back in 1970. The initiative was a very successful endeavor and was well recognized as well and subsequent­ly SLIM was incorporat­ed by an Act of Parliament in 1980.

SLIM is a member of the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka and of ESOMAR, the Federation of Marketing Research Industries and also a member of the Asia Marketing Federation, which is affiliated to the World Marketing Associatio­n.

SLIM has been very successful in standing on its objectives (which are re produced below) for the past forty two years and undoubtedl­y these are the driving force of success for SLIM in no uncertain terms.

Objectives

To contribute within the area of our profession­al competence, to the economic growth of the country.

To foster the developmen­t, growth and wider acceptance of marketing as a key management function.

To provide a profession­al forum for its membership.

To advise and assist on the formation, implementa­tion and appraisal of national policies on any matters connected with marketing, both in Sri Lanka and abroad.

To suggest and promote legislativ­e action in the sphere of marketing to serve the best interests of the country.
