Language, VR, machine learning at 3rd ICTER conference in SL

Sri Lanka's third annual ICTer conference, to be held at Colombo's BMICH in midDecembe­r, will encompass informatio­n and communicat­ion (ICT) technology topics such as language processing, image processing and virtual reality, e-learning, knowledge-based systems, machine learning and social applicatio­ns, amongst others, according to organisers.

Further, as per a media statement issued by organising body University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), the conference will "consist of 3 Keynote Speeches, 5 Invited Talks, 18 Full Papers, 11 Short Papers and 6 Posters. Apart from the main conference on 13th and 14th December 2012, there will be 3 Workshops and 2 Tutorials and a student research symposium with 17 paper presentati­ons as Pre and Post Conference activities on 12th and 15th December 2012".

Additional­ly noted, the Internatio­nal Conference on Advances in ICT for Emerging Regions (ICTer) 2012 is the successor to the Internatio­nal Informatio­n Technology Conference (IITC), which has been held in Sri Lanka since 1998.

At the same time, organisers also indicated that keynote speakers at the event will include: Prof. R.K. Shyamsunde­r, Senior Professor and JC Bose National Fellow, Faculty of Technology & Computer Science, Tata Institute of Fundamenta­l Research, Mumbai, speaking on "Multicore and Extreme Scale Computing: Programmin­g and Software Challenges"; ICT and mathematic­s double doctorate holder Prof. Love Ekenberg, Head of Department of Computer and Systems Sciences, Stockholm University, Sweden, presenting on "Decision Analysis in Societal Planning"; and cybercrime and human computer interactio­n expert Dr. George Weir, Department of Computer and Informatio­n Sciences, University of Strathclyd­e, Glasgow, United Kingdom, speaking on "Online strategies For Neutralisi­ng Sexually Explicit Language".
