Bodyline Triumphs at the London Olympics

- Chairman of MAS Group, Mahesh Amalean Bodyline CEO Dilan Gooneratne

When track and field athletes from eleven countries donned the world's lightest, fastest and greenest speedsuit ever created by Nike to run the race of their dreams at the London Olympics, Sri Lanka too triumphed, given that it was Bodyline that worked with Nike under the banner of Project SWIFT on those Pro TurboSpeed suits.

The suits boast of being upto 0.023 seconds faster over 100 meters than Nike's previous track uniform, resulting from twelve years of research studying hundreds of textures, aesthetics and aerodynamics. Nike calls it, "an expression of data-informed and body-led."

The garment is manufactured with using recycled lightweight smooth fabric prompting zero distraction, inspired by dimples on the golf ball echoed on dimpled swaths. This AeroSwift fabric trips the air on the limb prompting speeds of upto 47mph while sprinting. Using scanning technology to map atheletes' bodies to the nearest millimeter to ensure the uniform fits like a second skin, the suits tested for 1,000 hours in a wind tunnel saw Team Bodyline excel at each stage of construction, being subjected to Nike's unrelenting testing procedures.

When Bodyline began its relationship with Nike seven years ago, it was in pursuance of a vision spearheaded by Chairman of MAS Group, Mahesh Amalean, to transform the MAS business model into a leaner one, birthed on an innovative culture and a quest to go beyond excellence. "We wanted to be a Group that is completely immersed in an innovative culture.

This meant that MAS began developing a local supply chain, ensuring that customers were able to source all their requirements within a single umbrella."

Nike remains a primary customer for the MAS Group with MAS Active and Bodyline being key partners in this relationship. Previouly however, Bodyline has worked with Nike on its revolutionary sports bra, the beach volleyball suits for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the uniforms for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Very proud of his team's triumphs, Bodyline CEO Dilan Gooneratne says this is the first time that Nike has ventured out of the USA, "and given that Bodyline delivered nearly 12,000 garments in 99 style combinations to suit individual athletes' requirements, we have been extremely successful in showcasing to the world that Sri Lanka has the R&D capabilities, competencies and technology to execute high intensity projects. We will surely be present at the next few Olympics too!"
