Chanaka Weerakoon from Oxford College of Business named World’s Top student in Business Management by Heriot Watt University UK

- Chanaka Weerakoon

At Oxford College of Business ( OCB), they don’t just embrace diversity - they define it. Students come to OCB from all types of business circles. Their cultures, backgrounds and ambitions exemplify Sri Lanka’s business mindset which is needed to be successful leaders in a rapidly changing and evolving economy. The Bachelor of Business Administration offered at OCB in affiliation with Heriot Watt University (HWU) is one of the most popular and sought after bachelors programmes in the country today, mainly because of the University from which it is offered and because of the high quality of teaching at OCB.

While the management would like to congratulate Chanaka Weerakoon on his rare achievement it is with great pride that OCB announces that Chanaka Weerakoon an Undergraduate student from OCB successfully completed his degree in the Business Management disciplines, with the award of Distinction and was named top graduate from all those who achieved the award around the world. It is a very rare and prestigious academic achievement achieved by less than five percent of graduates.

Commenting on Chanaka’s achievement he states, “In today’s competitive business environment to advance in one’s career, an academic qualification is a must. With so many degree programmes on offer, it is critical to carry a qualification which is recognized within the business world. As one of the many ambitious executives striving to move up the corporate ladder I was able to gain just that by enrolling in the HWU BBA programme at OCB. The ranking of the university, among the many other factors, was one of my top selection criteria. HWU is one of UK’s top 20 universities in internationally recognized league tables. The internal British degree it offers is recognized throughout the world with high employment prospects. The course content of the BBA programme is comprehensive, relevant and up to date in the context of today’s business environment.

The learning environment at OCB surpasses that of a conventional classroom setting. The teaching sessions are conducted in small groups which provide the opportunity for students to interact with the lecturer and each other. Having classes on the weekends gave me the flexibility and freedom to learn without side-lining my career. The dedicated panel of lecturer’s is experienced, resourceful and engaging. Their hands-on experience and success in the business world was encouraging and inspirational to us as young professionals. The current business developments that are discussed in relation to subject areas provide valuable insights and knowledge into the real business world.

The journey I have travelled has been a memorable one filled with lots of hard work as well as good times. I would like to thank OCB and my lecturers for their tireless effort and encouragement throughout the past year. The degree I proudly hold today and the knowledge I gained through this experience will no doubt help to progress in my career path.
