Tiny Tots Montessori at Aweriwatta Road, Wattala declared opened

The first Montessori Swimming Pool in Sri Lanka – “A new concept and brain child of it’s CEO”, Mr. A n u r a Amaratunga

“Dedicated coaching towards success’ is the motto of Tiny Tots Montessori, at Aweriwatta Ro a d , Amaratunga Gardens, Wattala. Another dream come true, for Mr.Anura Amaratunga the CEO and his wife Mrs Shiromie Amaratunga, the Directress. March 4, 2013, was a very significan­t and historic day for Tiny Tots Montessori at Aweriwatta Road , Amaratunga Gardens, Wattala because it became the first ever Montessori in Sri lanka to open a Swimming Pool for their tiny students. . Also it is the first indoor montesori pool in Sri lanka. Th e pool is named as TINY TOTS” pool. Probably it is also an important day for Sri lanka too. The pool was declared open by Mr.Julian Boling, the well known swimming champion as the Chief guest at the opening ceremony. When this idea of ‘ Swimming Pool for Kids’ came to Mr.Anura Amaratunga’s mind, he drafted a questionna­ire and was given to the parents whose children studying at the Tiny Tots Montessori. More than 90% of the parents responded favourably. Without further delay, he decided to start the project after contacting the one of the best pool builders in Sri lanka.

It is with a length of 30 feet and 10 feet wide with a depth of 2 feet ideally built for Montessori kids. The pool is fully covered with a Polycarbon­ated , Alumunium structure for child’s safety and to protect from dust. With the successful track record in the past 16 yrs, in Early Child Developmen­t’ Tiny Tots Montessori is once again proud to add another ‘Unique Feature’ to kids Physical Package, with the intent of promoting Physical and Mental fitness among the younger population of Sri Lanka.

The pool is also open for out side children too, where they could come and learn swimming under the supervisio­n of experience­d and qualified coaches. Although building this pool has cost lot of money, not a single cent has been increased on admission or school fees. His next dream is to have at least one student from Tiny Tots Montessori, to be a participan­t at the Olympics and to win a medal. The new concept, ‘ Swimming Pools for Montessori Kids” was a brain child of Mr.Anura Amaratunga, who is the CEO of Tiny Tots Montessori and Alsda Primary Institute . Being a qualified marketer with CIM ( U. K) with 26 yers of marketing experience in the mercantile sector, now involves in the field of child education after his retirement.

He wanted to do something different and also some thing that would give some value to children. As Sri Lanka is surrounded by the ocean, and many families used to go to beaches in several parts of the island especially during holidays. As Sri lanka consists many lakes and rivers people used to go for boat rides for fun. Many deaths have taken place as a result of boat capsizing in these locations. He also realized the importance of swimming, as the number of deaths getting incresed in Sri Lanka due to drowning , both adults and children which is becoming a common thing in day to day news. During rainy seasons as a result of floods , so many people used to drown in flood water and die.

Mr . Julian Boling in his speech emphasized the importance of knowing how to swim and other bene and also recalled the large number of lives that were lost due to tsunami disaster in Sri lanka.

‘ Tiny Tots ‘ pool coaching is done by experience­d and qualified coaches attached to leading schools in Colombo. The parents are permitted to sit and watch their children enjoying and learning how to swim. The pool had been built by one of the best pool builders in Sri lanka and the maintenanc­e too is done by the same company. Therefore Tiny Tots Montessori ensures high quality standards in safety of kids.
