R.I.T. Alles inaugurates pathway for differently abled devotees at Gothami Viharaya Borella
Gothami Viharaya a Temple with a history of 113 years, is also world famous for the unique paintings by George Keyt. For the benefit of devotees unable to walk, a tiled pathway has been constructed. The Pathway was formally inaugurated by Mr R I T Alles, Chairman, Gateway International on Nawam Full Moon Poya, Feb 25. at 4.30pm.
To mark this occasion many devotes from Victoria Home for disabled were also present to make use of this facility on this memorable opening day.
This tiled pathway now provides wheelchair access to pay homage to the Budhu Madura, Chathiya, Bo Maluwa and the Dharma Salawa. This was a concept originated by Rev Telwatte Nagatha, Chief Incumbent.
Gothami Viharaya pathway was successfully completed on the guidance and advise provided by Dr Ajith Perera, Secretary General, Idiriya Foundation, who himself is in a wheel chair, due to a serious road accident over one and a half decades ago. Dr Ajith Perera has been a great campaigner who was also successful in winning rights for the General Public in obtaining a ‘Supreme Court Compulsory Ruling for all N ew Building’ to have ‘Wheel Chair Access’
The Dayaka Sabhava of the Gothami Viharaya extends an open invitation to the General Public and to those who are differently abled or very senior citi- zens who have difficulty in walking to use this pathway for the differently abledat Gothami Viharaya. Wheel Chairs are also made available at the Temple. This would mean that elderly family members could be now brought to the temple and with the use of Wheel Chairs already available at the Temple the opportunity could be provided for them to pay homage key places of worship within the temple premises.
