PREMIER CRICKET Monumental 336 by Kushal Janith Perera

- By M. Shamil Amit

Kushal Janith Perera slammed a swashbuckling career best record knock of 336 as Colts resuming on their overnight score of 519 for 6 made a mammoth 611 for 8 against hapless Saracens SC before declaring just before the lunch break on day two at the Colts ground.

Kushal who was unbeaten on 289 on day one went on to add a further 47 runs before falling victim to occasional right arm spinner Buddika Mendis. Kushal’s calypso style knock took him 275 balls which included 29 boundaries and 14 sixes. Incidentally this was his second best knock as two weeks ago he slammed 203 against neighbouring BRC.

The knock is also no doubt is a record in first class in Sri Lanka. According to reliable sources a triple century has not been scored in a local domestic tournament before.

Saracens SC in their turn was bowled out for 186 and then were made to follow on with a massive deficit of 429 runs. They ended the day on 76 for 2 needing a further 357 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

At P. Sara Stadium Tamil Union struck back after having conceded a first inning lead to Chilaw Marians to turn the tables and secure a four wickets win to record their sixth successive win in as many matches.

The two sides completed their first innings with Chilaw Marians making 206 and then restricted the home team to 156. The second day’s play saw Chilaw Marians, in their second innings, being bundled out for 155 leaving Tamil Union a target of 209 runs which they reached with minimum of fuss.

Panadura SC was sitting pretty against Air Force at the end of the second day’s play at Rifle Green. Panadura SC taking first lease on day one made 309 and bowled out Air Force, resuming on their overnight score of 41 for 3, to a score of 173.

Army SC was guided by skipper Manjula de Zoysa who made a 142, which helped them whilst resuming on their overnight score of 263 for 6, to make 365 against Moors SC who in their turn was able to muster only 219 at Panagoda.

SSC continued their domination over Kurunegala YCC at the Welagedera Stadium on day two. After bowling KYCC for a low score of 164 SSC resumed their overnight score of 134 for 2 and went on to make a formidable 412 for 8 declared. NCC was on top against Navy SC at Welisara on the second day while Bloomfield held the upper hand over Ragama CC at Reid Avenue. BRC has already taken a first inning lead over Lankan CC at the FTZ ground in Katunayake.
