Politics, economics and astrology at STBC
The 18year old Sunday Times Business Club (STBC), which has brought major national, social and economic issues to the table, is organising another path-breaking event this month: Sri Lanka's future this year on politics and economics with an astrological recipe.
At the club's monthly meeting on March 18 at 6.30 pm at the Cinnamon Lakeside hotel, an eminent panel comprising well-known Sri Lankan astrologer Piyasena Rathuwithana, political scientist and former ambassador Dayan Jayatillake and Executive Director of the Pathfinder Foundation Luxman Siriwardene will discuss these issues under the theme "Politics, Economics and Astrology."
Dr Jayatillake, until recently Sri Lanka's ambassador in France and before that Geneva, will discuss the political landscape emerging this year; Mr Siriwardene, who has many years in public service and is now in the private sector, will present an economic perspective while Dr Rathuwithana's topic is on what lies ahead for Sri Lanka through an astrological perspective.
Interestingly when Dr Rathuwithana spoke at the STBC on a previous occasion (February 6, 2011) on the planetary future of Sri Lanka, he referred to a 'turbulent' period for the country between November 2011 and November 2012. Most of his predictions made at the time came true. He said, at the time that people are 'not happy with the present economic situation and (I think) many people won't vote at the upcoming local government elections' which was clearly seen at an ensuing election where the turnout was low.
He also spoke of many natural disasters and the possibility of a tall building toppling in the island during this period. The World Trade Centre in Fort, among Sri Lanka's tallest buildings, shook during one of the earth tremors which the country has experienced increasingly in 2012.He also spoke of many scandals involving financial embezzlement and allegations of different kinds of corruption, which has also been seen last year.
Monthly meetings of the club are exclusively for members with special invitations for outsiders on request.
