- Chandran Rutnam Chairman Asian Aviation Centre (Pvt) Ltd

The Asian Aviation Centre (Pvt) Ltd welcomes the inauguration of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport in Mattala. Sri Lanka’s second international airport is truly a gateway to the south.

Asian Aviation Centre, the Premier Aviation Academy in Sri Lanka, congratulates His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his team for the vision and the implementation of this magnificent achievement.

18th March 2013 marks one of the important milestones in the history of Aviation in Sri Lanka, with the opening of the Rajapaksa International Airport at Mattala.

Mattala airport is a symbolic achievement where it signals entry into a competitive world after years of stagnant economy as a result of two decades of conflict. Mattala airport does not seem to be traditional in nature with routine activities. It plans to offer many other attractions to the tourists with the establishment of many resort towns where tourists can have their day at Mattala without seeing Colombo.

With the opening of the airport tourist traffic to Sri Lanka will increase up to a greater degree and resultant economic benefits associated is enormous. It will pave the way for more job opportunities for the professionals in the sector.

Aviation sector is growing day by day in a global scenario with much benefit to the passengers. With the introduction of budget airlines as against the traditional airlines many people tend to use air travel as against the other modes of transport. Opening of this new airport will make a vital contribution to Sri Lanka’s social and economic structure.

The new airport at Mattala will stand like a giant in the area and undoubtedly will be an attraction to many tourists. With the infrastructure development in hand and range of projects that will piggyback, the development of Mattala area is inevitable.

At this auspicious hour, I would like to congratulate His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his team of experts for initiating this mega project to bring economic prosperity to the nation. Air Vice Marshal Prishantha De Silva, VSV, USP, MBA (Cbo), MSc (Strat& Def) (India), Dip I Eng (SL) (Retd).
