Films from 12 countries at Francophon­e film festival

The 8th annual Francophon­e film festival, Bonjour Cinema will be held on March 29 (by invitation only), March 30 and 31 and April 5,6 and 7 at the BCIS auditorium, at the BMICH, and will be the main event of the celebratio­n of “La Francophon­e” in Sri Lanka.

Twelve films, including two films for children will be screened during the festival at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6.30 p.m. at the BCIS Auditorium of the BMICH. The films contain English subtitles and entrance is free of charge.

Speaking at the news conference at the BCIS last week, Alexandre Martinez, the Director of Alliance Française said “The Francophon­e Film Festival is another attempt to enhance and share the humanist values promoted by the French Language”.

“The Festival will also include one day Master Class organised by Agenda 14 and conducted by the Sri Lankan cinematogr­apher M. D. Mahindapal­a, a renowned filmmaker who directed many acclaimed films and documentar­ies,” said

Anoma Rajakaruna, editor of Agenda 14. Those below 35 years interested in cinematogr­aphy are welcome to attend the masterclas­s which will be limited to 100 people.

The Francophon­e Film Festival will begin with the Sri Lankan film by Aruna Jayawardan­a, Nikini Vassa (August Drizzle) - Rain that never kisses the earth: an emotional journey through Life, Death and Expectatio­ns.

The Festival will include movies from Canada, France, Qatar, Romania, Switzerlan­d, Tunisia and Vietnam. Friday March 29: (Opening) 6. 30 p.m.—Nikini Vassa (By invitation only) Saturday March 30: 11 a.m.- When the tenth month comes (Vietnam); 3 p.m.- Tomboy (France); 6.30 p.m. Incendies (Canada) Sunday March 31: 11 a.m.—Molly in Springtime (Canada); 3 p.m.- Crossing dates (Romania); 6.30 p.m.- The translator (Switzerlan­d) Friday April 5: 3.p.m.- Lyrics Revolt (Qatar); 6.30 p.m.—A screaming man (France) Saturday April 6: 11 a.m.- Money Exchange (Romania); 3 p.m.- Nostalgia for the countrysid­e (Vietnam); 6. 30 p.m.—Another man (Switzerlan­d) Sunsay April 7: 3 p.m. -- Masterclas­s
