New rising Sri LankanAust­ralian actor Frederick James (Lobato) Koch was lucky to have the premiere of his debut in silver screen in the Hollywood.

Frederick son of well-known singer and entertaine­r Alston Koch played one of the significan­t roles in the film ‘A Common Man’ along with Academy Award winners, Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, HUGO) and Ben Cross (Chariots Of Fire). On March 15 the film was to premiered in Beverley Hills’ ‘The Musical Hall’ which saw the launch of films like ‘DR. ZHIVAGO’, ‘Lawrence Of Arabia’ and ‘Gone With The Wind’.

The launch was followed by a ‘red carpet’ after party at the Beverley Hills Hotel.

Editor of the film James Putnam specially mentions in his blurb that the screen lights up the moment Koch makes his debut. Koch graduated from the Actors Centre (ACA) that has produced Hugh Jackman, currently patron and graduated from AFTRS currently studying screen writing etc from the same school that gave us Alex Proyas and Academy Award winning film makers such as Jane Campion (The Piano).

Filmed entirely in Sri Lanka it also stars Patrick Rutnam and a host of other popular Sri Lankan actors and actresses and is directed by film maker Chandran Rutnam.

‘A Common Man’ has received six nomination­s at the Madrid Film Festival with more to come from the other festivals while qualifying for the Academy Awards in 2014 as well.

Old Thomians’ Swimming Club (OTSC) hosted S. Thomas’ College 1st XI Cricket Team for dinner after the Mustangs Trophy 50 Over Cricket match with Royal at the OTSC ClubHouse. The pictures show Warden Prof. Indra De Soysa along with the Cricket Team members, Master In charge-STC, OBA Secretary, OTSC Past President Dr. CLV Abeynayake and members of the OTSC Ex-Co along with President Dulip Soysa.

A memento was presented to the Thomian Captian Javed Bongso.
