Sri Lankans witnessed the introduction of the newest iteration of Samsung's flagship Galaxy smart phone, the S4, at a glitzy affair at Water's Edge on the evening of May 9. Being unveiled locally just weeks after its March 2013 worldwide launch, the S4 aso brought with it a number of upgrades over its previous, S3 model, including a 5-inch full High Definition (HD) Super AMOLED display screen showcasing 441 ppi pixel density, as well as a 1.6 GHz octa-core processor, with 2 GB RAM, running the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

Additionally, with its incorporation of Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the dimensions of this version of the S4 worked out to actually be almost a full millimetre smaller, in terms of both width, and depth, compared to the S3, while also being more scratch resistant and durable. Further, the device also utilised a 13 megapixel rear camera, as well as a 2 megapixel front camera, both of which are geared for 1080p HD video recording.

At the same time, Samsung took this opportunity to also officially bring in its Galaxy Grand smartphone and Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet offerings into the Sri Lankan market, following the initial unveiling of these two devices over Q1, 2013. With a 5-inch screen, the Grand features Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean running on a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, with 1 GB RAM, while the 8-inch Note also runs the same version of Jelly Bean on a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, with 2 GB RAM.

Quoted in the S4 launch announcement, Samsung Sri Lanka Managing Director H.K. Chang stated: "We are always listening to our consumers and innovating to give them products that meet their needs. This has led to the successful introduction of iconic devices like the Galaxy SII, Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2 and today, we are proud to announce the launch of our flagship device and the much awaited, Samsung Galaxy S4".
