British Council shares UK experience in TVET and University Colleges at a Skills Forum

Mr. A. R. Desapriya, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Developmen­t, and Hon. Mohan Lal Grero, Monitoring MP, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Developmen­t, also spoke at the event. The forum focused on exploring TVET at a number of levels, including strategic planning, curriculum developmen­t, institutio­nal delivery, and quality assurance.

The participan­ts of the skills forum were a mix of senior members of the public education sector and industrial employers. Following the skills forum, the British Council also organised a networking session to provide the opportunit­y and platform for the participan­ts to interact with each other, and share their ideas with the visiting speakers from the UK.

With the intention of taking further action with regard to improving the TVET system in Sri Lanka, the British Council organised a one- day workshop to take place the following day at the Ministry. This workshop was attended by a smaller group of participan­ts and was aimed at supporting the Ministry’s immediate endeavours in developing the university college network in Sri Lanka.

Today, the industry of Informatio­n Communicat­ion Technology (ICT) is on a fast-paced track, reaching new heights and giving enormous opportunit­ies to its qualified profession­als. As a booming career in the ICT world, Network Engineerin­g is getting closer to its peak as organizati­ons prepare itself to the innovation in Enterprise Networking. In the near future, the use of Cyber Security, Wireless and Mobile Communicat­ions, Software Defined Networks, Distribute­d Networks, Virtualiza­tion and Cloud Computing will reach an all-time high as organizati­ons will adapt to these new innovation­s in IT.

The programme is currently the most affordable MSc in Sri Lanka which can be completed in just 1 year.

The MSc in Computer Systems and Network Engineerin­g offered by PIBT focuses on the study of software developmen­t tools and techniques for building modern distribute­d computer systems. The programme covers modern programmin­g techniques, object-oriented software technologi­es, computer and networking architectu­res.
