Students from Horizon Campus, who are presently reading for an LL.B. within the axis of the University of London International Programmes (UoLIP), would take part in a two week summer camp in Malaysia, in July/August of this year.Five students and a faculty member would visit Malaysia, as part of a summer transfer programme, involving Crescendo College, Malaysia, whose students would also visit Sri Lanka for a two week period, during the summer break.

The opportunity for the summer camp originated for the Horizon students via the Global Network Development Grant Scheme of the University of London Inter national Programmes ( UoLIP). The UoL International programmes had requested partner institutions to provide viable proposals that would encapsulate the inter

national development motives of the UOLIP, which in turn would select the three best, for this academic year.

The purpose of these grants is to support teaching institutions in working collaboratively to develop and deliver projects that will not only strengthen their individual institution but the global network of institutions as a whole. The stated aim of any proposal as requested by the UoLIP wasto: Create opportunities for student mobility across the International Programmes. Enhance the employability of International Programmes students. Develop leadership capacity within the network of teaching institutions. It is with such motives in mind that Horizon Campus partnered with Crescendo College, Malaysia to provide a one month summer camp programme for both sets of students. As acknowledged by the UoLIP, there were many proposals from across the world, from instit u t i o n s w h i ch run the International Programmes, and it was indeed a proud moment for Horizon Campus to be selected as one of the best three programmes to be organized under the GlobalNetwork Development Grant Scheme.

As noted by the UoLIP, the threeproposals that the Global Network Development Grant would support are

Title: Summer camp for second year students; Participating institutions: Horizon Campus ( Sri Lanka) and Crescendo (Malaysia)

Title: Moot Court Competition; Participating institutions: Anglo American University ( Czech Republic) and Middlesex College of Law (UK)

Title: Reciprocal visit between institutions; Participating institutions: ISBF ( India) and Roots Metropolitan Campus (Pakistan)

Apart from the experience that the students would receive in meeting students from other international institutions, they would also get the opportunity of being a part of a research project which encapsulates the subject matter they have dealt with, within the past year of their academic life. Added to the academic and social benefits that the students would receive from this venture, is the fact that the entire cost of travel & accommodation in Malaysia is being borne through the funds awarded to Horizon Campus via the Global Network Development Grant. As this project is the first of its kind for students studying for a degree on the UoLIP, it is the hope of Horizon Campus to build on this experience and develop further ties with International institutions, in order that future opportunities of study- transfer could be provided for students who read for a degree at Horizon Campus.
