CIMA announces workshop on financial modelling

‘ Ever changing role of the finance function in today’s organizati­ons is creating more varied demands upon the skills of everyone involved in the works of finance and accounting.’ Financial modeling is as old as business itself. Every manager with profit targets to reach uses financial models, without realizing it!

Excel is today one of the most widely used spreadshee­t in any organizati­on. However Microsoft Excel research has shown that the average user is familiar with less than 1% of

Excel capabiliti­es. Financial modeling with excel is such a workshop where knowledge of finance meets with technology for better understand­ing of the financial world.

Workshop leader Harsha Wijesooriy­a is the ch i e f exe c u t ive of f i c e r o f Silverline­soft. Harsha has over 18 years of experience in Informatio­n Technology and Accounting / Finance. He is the lead lecturer for the Corporate Finance and Financial modeling modules for the MBA program by USQ Australia.

Content for the workshop includes using range names in excel models; conditiona­l formatting and formula driven formatting to monitor models; financial functions : PV, FV, NPV, IRR, XNPV, XIRR, PMT; goal seek and what- if analysis; pivot tables; scenario manager; data tables; using lookup functions; advanced data validation techniques; introducti­on to macros and user defined functions ( UDFs). This workshop is expected to attract corporate finance profession­als, quantitati­ve analysts, investment bankers, risk profession­als, treasury managers and financial controller­s.

Second edition of the workshop organised by CIMA for the benefit of its members, students and the business community will be conducted at the CIMA Auditorium, 356, Elvitigala Mawatha, Colombo 5 on 28 and 29 May 2013 from 2pm to 5pm on both days. Registrant­s are invited to bring their own lap top devices for hands on experience.
