An Accredited Degree in Engineering or Technology through Technology Foundation Programme at CINEC

- Prof. N. Rajkumar Director, International Cooperation Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology

The Technology Foundation Programme is specially designed for students who do not meet the minimum entry requirements for entry to year one of a Degree programme in Engineering or Technology.

The main aim of the Technology Foundation Programme is to provide a breadth and level of education that ensures those successfully completing the course can start a degree in engineering or technology with confidence.

Students are, thereby, started on the road to acquiring the knowledge they need to excel in the globally- distributed, digitally- connected professional engineering and technology community. The course will enable students to: become confident in applying mathematical concepts

develop an understanding of the basics of the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering sciences

undertake laboratory-based experiments and work with the data generated

interpret information and present conclusions effectively, in both oral and written form

What will I study?

Mathematics is normally an area students find difficult. To overcome this we work with students in small groups to build upon existing mathematical skills, however rusty. To ensure you have an understanding of three key elements of engineering and technology, you undertake courses in Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, and Engineering Materials. You will use our extensive laboratory facilities to understand how and why electrical devices, mechanical systems, and materials function and, of course, fail.

As your career develops after graduation, you will be required to make important commercial and technical decisions. To ensure you have the skills to communicate your views in a professional and confident manner, we work with you to develop report writing and presentation skills.

Entry requirements:

G.C.E (O/L) with 5 credit passes including English, Mathematics and Science Sat for G.C.E (A/L) in Mathematics stream G.C.E (A/L) in non-science or bio streams Any other relevant qualification Mature student with appropriate experience

Why study this course with us

The Technology Foundation Programme is the only foundation course on the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s list of accredited courses. This recognizes the course’s quality and confirms the appropriateness of its content in enabling students to enroll on the first level of an engineering- or technology-based degree.

A student completing the Technology Foundation Programme and progressing to one of our accredited degree courses will have partially fulfilled the educational requirements for professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer ( IEng). This provides a sound basis from which to develop a career and progress to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

To enable you to maximize your potential, teaching is undertaken in small groups. Mathematics is often a subject that causes students the most difficulty.

Hence, in addition to the face- to- face teaching we provide access to a computer- based mathematics package, enabling you to practice anytime, anywhere and gain instant feedback; and just in- case you need further help you can attend drop- in sessions with our mathematics tutor.

The facilities available in the CINEC campus are second to none. The students have the benefit of exceptional teaching and laboratory facilities designed with extensive stat-of-the-art technology.

Students and parents are most welcome to visit the CINEC campus at Millennium Drive, IT Park, Malabe, to have an idea of the facilities available in the campus and obtain further information on the programmes of study.
