D.S.Senanayake College Colombo 07 conducted their annual Art exhibition at the primary division on 4TH July 2013.. The chief guest at the occasion was Hon. Bandula Gunawardena. Minister of Education.. The principal thanked the Minister for his gracious presence despite the busy schedule.

The minister thanked the members of the staff and parents for extending their co operation to make this event a great success. The minister stated that D.S.Senanayake college is an educational institute , whose progress in education and extra curricular activities can be appreciated. The exhibition has been conducted in a highly refined and cultured manner, which holds the best of virtues in the highest order.

All children in the primary participated and certificates were awarded by the chief guest. Art expresses childrens feelings towards nature and objects, and we as parents should encourage children to develop their skill.

The principal speaking at the occasion stated that Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items often with symbolic significance in a way that influence and affects one or more of the senses.

It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, Creations, and models of expressions, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture and painting. Art is a part of aesthetic studies and the intention is to stimulate thoughts and emotions. Art enriches childrens lives.

Consider the world without Art what would be the impact on the lack of graphics on the children’s favourite video game. Art makes the children more thoughtful and develops analytical skills.

Art is something that is both functional and aesthetic pleasing to the eyes of the children. Creating Art expands a child’s ability to interact with the world around them, and provide a new set of skills for self expression and communication.

Art not only develops analytical skills but also cultivates important skills that benefit a childs self development. When a child draws a picture, paints a portrait, that child is beginning to communicate visually.

Children express themselves through art on a fundamental level, sometime their artwork is the manifestation of that expression, but more often the physical process of creating is the expression. Art is one area where children and their creativity have free rein.

The media advisor to the school development society Mr.J.M.Ruzzan, congratulated the children whose artwork is on display for their effort and creation. He thanked the members of the staff for their contribution for organizing the event in a successful manner., He stated that D.S.Senanayake college has set an example to other schools in which an art exhibition has to be conducted..
