IQSSL Technical forum
A Technical Session on the theme of “Infrastructure Development Goals: Duties & Challenges” for members of Institute and Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (IQSSL) has been scheduled to be held on 16 August 2013 from 2pm to 6pm at Bishops College Auditorium. The intended audience includes students of Quantity Surveying.
The event will include few presentations by eminent resource personals from both public and private sectors and a discussion forum. With this event the Institute expects to educate the young quantity surveyors of Sri Lanka about the government’s role in infrastructure development, duties of the profession, challenges and way forward to overcome such challenges in reaching the set goals at a national level.
IQSSL has already successfully conducted a similar themed forum at its AGM in June 2013 at Hotel Galadari. Its Chief Guest was Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Construction Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities. Keynote speaker was Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The Chief Guest and Keynote speaker highlighted the government involvement in Infrastructure Development in the country and how its policies support to reach the intended goals of development.
A panel discussion was also held with the participation of Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama, Chairman, Ports Authority, Mr. Lakshman Jayasekera Director General, National Physical Planning Department, Chartered QS Tilak Kollonne and Dr. Rohan Karunarathna, President, CIOB. It was chaired by Chartered QS Lalith Ratnayake.
The panel discussion encompassed, among other things, proactive role of National Policy Planning Development in taking forward the government initiative for integrated planning with economic, social, physical and environmental aspects within land and territorial waters in Sri Lanka. Interactive dialogue was generated among practicing professionals and personnel from ministries, professional institutions, universities, consultants, contractors and members of Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka, practising both locally and abroad.
