Chandrisha­n appointed Baseball trainer

Sri Lanka Baseball Associatio­n ( SLBA) has appointed former national rugby player and veteran fitness trainer, Chandrisha­n Perera as the official fitness trainer for the Sri Lanka senior and youth baseball squads.

Chandrisha­n well known in the sport’s circle as a rugby coach, fitness trainer, and a commentato­r will initially take care of the 40-member Sri Lanka baseball squad which will be announced shortly by the SLBA selection committee headed by Subash Gunasinghe.

Among Chandrisha­n’s top priorities will be conditioni­ng the team’s fitness level for the upcoming 11th West Asia Baseball Cup 2013, which will be held in Pakistan from November 26 to December 1. Sri Lanka will be one of the teams participat­ing among India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Afghanista­n, Iraq, Iran and Nepal in the competitio­n which will be held at the Qasim Bagh Baseball Stadium in Multan.

“The Sri Lanka Baseball team is a force to reckon with in the region. Our main focus will be to strive for the championsh­ip at this competitio­n and to do so Chandrisha­n’s involvemen­t in raising the fitness standards of the players will be a crucial component,” SLBA official Dinesh Perera stated.

The SLBA will conduct the training and fitness sessions for the national squad at the newly constructe­d Japan- Sri Lanka Friendship Baseball ground in Diyagama, Homagama.
