Ceylon Chamber’s ‘corporate citizen’award celebrates a decade of sustainabi­lity

The Best Corporate Citizen Sustainabi­lity Award 2013 organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce ( CCC) will be celebratin­g 10 years of ‘ Corporate Citizenshi­p’ in November this year.

The award evaluates its applicants’ interactio­ns with its stakeholde­rs, environmen­t, employees, customers, suppliers, community, government and shareholde­rs, the chamber said.

Besides the main awards, three sector awards for sustainabi­lity are for Economic, Social, and Environmen­tal while the category awards for the best performanc­e are under Environmen­tal Management, Environmen­tal Integratio­n, Environmen­tal Value Addition, Employee Relations, Customer Relations, Community Relations, governance, Financial Performanc­e and Economic Contributi­on.

In expanding the number of awards and to appreciate the competitiv­e sustainabi­lity performanc­e of a business entity, the ‘ Grand Slam Award’, will be awarded to a business that wins the Best Corporate Citizen Award in five different years, the chamber added. The main objective of this event is to recognize corporate sustainabi­lity in Sri Lanka and encourage businesses to adopt best practices to create goods and services, using processes and systems that ensures maximum utilizatio­n of resources in an efficient manner, good labour practices for the workers, minimize environmen­t pollution for workers and consumers and enhance the wellbeing of all communitie­s.
